All the Muslims believe in Allah, the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his immaculate progeny), the holy Qur'an, Qiyamat and so on.
All the Muslims pray five times a day, fast in the holy month of Ramadhan, perform Hajj and so on.
So, the question is why are they divided into countless sects? What is the main thing that has divided the Muslim Ummah?
Is it the fault of Islam?
Is it the fault of the holy Prophet?
Is it the fault of the Ummah?
If one studies the root cause of division, it is none other than the issue of Imamat/successor-ship/khilafat.
Did the holy Prophet leave this world without appointing anyone as his successor?
Did the holy Prophet appoint anyone as his successor/caliph/vicegerent?
If the holy Prophet did not appoint anyone as his successor then it means:
a. there was no need for him to appoint one and he did not appoint anybody for that matter. So, if the holy Prophet himself did not find any need to appoint anyone, why did the so called grand sahabas discarded the blessed body of the holy Prophet and rushed in Saqifa to sort out this issue of khilafat? Were they more smart/intelligent/cleverer than their Prophet?
If the issue of khilafat/Imamat was that important that the body of the holy Prophet could be left unattended, then why did the holy Prophet didn't do anything about it in the first place?
The first caliph, Abu Bakr realised the necessity of appointing his successor. The second caliph also found the necessity to sort out the issue of his successorship but the holy Prophet himself did not!! Subhanallah!!
This means that either the holy Prophet forgot to sort out his successorship or neglected it and did not care. Could such a person be fit to be a Prophet of Allah who ignores/neglects/forgets such an important task because of which his ummah is divided into countless sects?
Yes, there was a need for the holy Prophet to appoint his successor and he did, not one but twelve.
The Muslim ummah need to study the history of Islam academically, free of prejudice and with an open mind.
