I feel its a non-issue now. It is being internationalized just because the West does not want to see a strong re-emerging Turkey. Muhammed Fateh conquered Istanbul and whatever he did was not different from what others had been doing in Muslim and other lands. For 500 plus years prayers were offered in it, so what is the problem now ? Just because the West does not like it so its bad. Turkey has taken the right decision in light of the Supreme Court's verdict. Mentioning some protest by the Russian Orthodox Church is of no significance. It is being given importance by the BBC and some other Western media.
Time has come for Muslims to avoid being apologetic and claim what is theirs. The Allies had no right to breakup the Ottoman Empire and create 41 new states. The Spaniards claimed to live by the Bible and did not behave. Are all good manners meant for Muslims ? Presently the Christians make up about 0.02 percent of the city's population. Such a huge structure cannot be reserved for them. Moreover the majority of Christians are usually absent from churches in the West. hats off to Erdogan for ignoring international opinion. Muslims should ponder over the Babri Masjid episode and countless other mosques that were destroyed by the Crusaders. As mayor of Istanbul Erdogan did not have executive powers.
