Assalamo Alaikom

When I reached the United States for the first time in 1972, I immediately noticed the huge difference between the culture in which I was born and raised, the Arab culture, and the American culture which I started studying perhaps subconsciously. The first big difference I noticed was the wasting of time in my culture and the keenness about it in the American culture. The second, which perhaps is more important, is how my folks do not care much about reading versus the Americans’ passion for reading and learning: They read when they wait for the bus, on the bus, on the train, in a waiting room at a dentist’ or physician’s room, in any waiting room, even in the bathroom, whereas my people talk and talk, so much so that they seem they are never tired of talking, and most of what they talk about is nonsense due to an acute shortage of true knowledge, useful knowledge, practical knowledge. I concluded that our people, the Middle Eastern people in general and my Arab people in particular, waste their time and resources although they are NOT the only ones, thus proving that they do not appreciate what the Almighty bestows on them, for all these things come from Him. He tests us through what He bestows on us. Let them blame themselves, if they have the courage, for their backwardness. Some emails I receive are so lengthy, they make me wonder if those who write them think that the Almighty created them for the sole purpose of writing and sending emails!

How did I react to the above impressions and to my comparison between the Arab and the American cultures? I started in the fall of 1973 my “Islamic Society of Georgia, Inc.” even while studying for my graduate degree in English on my own, a challenge which not many people can face or appreciate. In January of 1974, the first edition of Islamic Affairs bimonthly newsletter was published and circulated by this Society, ushering my life in writing, editing, translating and publishing, hence the list of books which the Almighty has enabled me to see in print and in circulation globally. This list in PDF format is included here for you together with another PDF file that shows you how, Alhamdu-Lillah, my books now cover Planet Earth. This is my reaction to my impression of the American people and their love for knowledge: I now provide them with a great deal of knowledge, not only them but so many other people throughout the world, all Praise is due to Allāh.

Certainly some recipients of this message will not appreciate it, nor will they appreciate the books I wrote or translated, I know that for sure, and to these jealous and ignorant individuals I say: I do not give a damn if you like my books or not, if you think you can write, translate, edit and publish better than them, by all means do so, nobody is stopping you or blocking your way; if not, be brave, at least once in your lifetime, and admit, at least to your own useless selves, that you are good-for-nothing fools. These fools must not expect me to respond to their stupid messages commenting on my books and of their publishers, so let them spare their time and spare me.
