True, Islam has forbidden enslaving people. But how about debt-bondage? Is this not the same thing as slavery under a different name?

Thousands of workers and their families are held in debt-bondage in the Sub-Continent including Pakistan. Throughout the country, sirdars, landlords and producers of small handicrafts, forcibly extract labor from adults and children and restrict their freedom of movement. They are held against their will without any negotiated terms of employment. They practically work for free to pay off their debt to their “masters. They never become debt free because they are having to pay exorbitant interest on the money they once borrowed. (Try 30-40% interest rates).
