India is currently ruled by a right-wing Hindu nationalist party, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), which is a political wing of the Nazi-inspired Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). This government has failed to adhere to democratic norms with regards to equality and fairness when it comes to the minority Muslim populace of India - be it the question of Kashmir, Ayodhya or citizenship. India has shut down the internet more than any other democracy.
On December 11, 2019, the Indian Parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB, which is now Citizenship Amendment Act, CAA) which makes religion a basis for citizenship. However, Islam was specifically removed from the list of accepted religions even though India has over 200 million Muslim citizens. While the law promises to grant persecuted minorities Indian citizenship from neighboring countries, many view it as an anti-Muslim policy to exclude Muslims from the national identity of India, promoting Hindu supremacist agenda.
