I don't disagree with what you mentioned. But My point was on overall historical and current contribution to science. I mentioned the percentage of Nobel laureates as an indicator of research in science although Nobel prizes are given for Peace, economics, are literature also. Economics is considered a social science.
Historically, in some part of medieval age, the East was at least equal to or even better than the West by living standards and economic condition. Yet that part of the world deplorably fell behind in scientific development.
