Dear Dr. Shabbir, highly respected teacher,
Salam o rahmat
Everyday, i study your valuable books and articles, and learn more and more, God bless you dear teacher. As a simple and novice student, i found some points about Idrees.
In a post as reply to respected brother Jawaid on Enoch, you beautifully explained "Enoch (Idrees) is mentioned as the great grandfather of Noah in the Bible. (Editor) This might be acceptable to us since it is an unimportant piece of information."
Enoch is mentioned before Noah chronologically in the book A History of Prophets.
And In QXP 23:23 is written "...We sent (the first Prophet
Honestly, i confused a little. If we would take Idrees as Enoch (as well as a messenger/prophet in the Quran) that is an original and pure Biblical personality with a biblical account, then how can be Noah the first prophet?
I reviewed much but it seems the Quran does not explicitly introduce Idrees as Enoch, it seems the Quran even does not explicitly introduce him as a prophet (maybe i am wrong). Traditional books justify taking Idrees as Enoch by an unacceptable and fictional N2I story that says he studied the scripture of Adam much, so he was called Idrees.
However, the verse 19:57 about Idress of the Quran may allude to Enoch in Genesis 5:25 , but it can only be an assumption. So, maybe Idrees can be considered as only Idress.
- Was he a prophet?
- Was he a messenger before Noah?
Dear teacher, please grace us by your enlightening teachings, i humbly learn every day from you.
Regards and best wishes,
