Qur'an teaches us to be ethical, moral and balanced human beings, what some so-called muslims do is up to them and not in accordance with Qur'an. For example, muslims worked out how to make Greek Fire and used it to attack others, but some utilised the "look to the signs within oneself and the heavens" and came up with medicines and planetary observations etc. They forged ahead at one time because it was a 'religious' duty to do this, so you cannot separate science from what those muslims did.
Without ethics in science we get nuclear bomb on Hiroshima 1945, before first electricity producing nuclear power plant 1954!
If we accept that science cannot left alone, ethical committees are everywhere, then we need an ultimate criterion to judge what we can and cannot do.
As a muslim as well as a caring, human being, cannot seperate the two, I hope to have made you laugh again, which is something at least!
