I didnt read anyone else say that we should take rap artists as our "role models"

I will say that there is a strong connection between Hip Hop Music & Art with Islam and Muslims from the beginning

Just because you may not be familiar with the history and culture, doesn't mean that it is automatically all bad and doesnt have any positive influence, because It does and I have met many Convert Muslims who can attest to it.

And people like Yvonne Ridley who think that music is haram, are the same kind of extremists of the Wahabi strain which has caused a lot of damage to not only Islam and Muslims around the world, but to the world population as a whole. If you want your young children in North America to stay Muslim, then I would rather have them listen to Nasheed music than tell them they can't listen to anything except recitation of the Quran, etc. Because the more strict you are with your kids, the more they will turn away from Islam and from the Muslim community.

My 2 cents based on experience of born and raised in the US and having young kids now.

May Allah make it easy for all Muslim Parents and their Children. Ameen

Irfan
