This is a short explanation from the respected author Paigham Mustafa about Hajj. Please comment on it.
*I am NOT adherent of the text/explanation of Paigham Mustafa. He mentions other meanings of Kabaa but we know we should understand meanings of the words in their own context.
However, i think we should not restrict the definition of Hajj only to Kabaa and Mecca, this concept should be applicable even on other planets as an annual conference and we should consider Kabaa and other decrees relate to it as a pattern and standard WHEN we are no longer living on Earth and we have gone to other planets (in the future).
Please correct me if i am wrong!
Hajj does not mean pilgrimage and likewise other words have been misconstrued to give an alien garb to Islam.
The word Ka’aba is mentioned at three different places in the Quran and they are all grouped in surah 5.
To support the square building (which is actually a type of temple as seen in South India) verses 5:97-98 are traditionally translated as: Allah made the Ka'aba, the Sacred House, an asylum of security for men, as also the Sacred Months, the animals for offerings, and the garlands that mark them: That ye may know that Allah hath knowledge of what is in the heavens and on earth and that Allah is well acquainted with all things. Know ye that Allah is strict in punishment and that Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
The correct exposition of the above verse is:
[5:97-8] God has set the hunting guidelines and indicators by the ankles of the animals; the conservation in the Sanctioned System to be upheld for mankind during the restricted months. This is to let you know that God knows everything in the heavens and the earth and what lies beneath the earth. And certainly God is fully aware of all things. Remember that God is strict in enforcing retribution and that God is Protector, most Merciful.
The subject of wildlife conservation is not found in any traditional translations and the Quranic statement about this topic is very clear when we uncover the interpolations. and the mistranslations.
Why are ankles the indicators? The ankles or a lower part of an animal will be strong in mature animals. The penalty for killing immature game will be greater and those in judgment will decide. How do we know that KABA means ankles and not a cube known as the Sacred House? The same word has been used in sura 5:6 where God tells us to wash 'your feet to the ankles' as part of personal hygiene. If 'kaba' means 'God's House' then we would be washing our feet up to 'God's House' each time we cleaned ourselves for good hygiene - it would not make sense. See also verse 5:6.
There is a lot more to this subject of conservation in the Quran. The words hurumun and masjid are also connected.
