MANI (Āyin-e Māni): "Prophet", Painter, Sculptor (216-276 CE)
Mani was more of a communist than Karl Marx. He even declared all women as common property of all men!
Along with Behzad, Mani was one of the greatest painters and sculptors of all times. A Zoroastrian king got him assassinated for divergent views and destroyed all his works and killed his followers.
Manichaeism was the third largest religion of its times.
A dualistic religious system with Christian, Gnostic, and pagan elements, founded in Persia in the 3rd century by Manes ( c. 216– c. 276). The system was based on a supposed primeval conflict between light and darkness. It spread widely in the Roman Empire and in Asia, and survived in eastern Turkestan (Xinjiang) until the 13th century.
After failing to win the favour of the next generation of Persian royalty, and incurring the disapproval of the Zoroastrian clergy, Mani is reported to have died in prison awaiting execution by the Persian Emperor Bahram I. The date of his death is estimated at 276.
Religious or philosophical dualism.
