22:17 Those who have attained faith (in the Qur’an), those who are Jewish, the agnostics, the Christians, the Zoroastrians and Pagans: Certainly, God will decide between them on the Day of Resurrection. God is Witness over all things and events. [2:136, 11:121, 22:55-56. Sabians = Agnostics, 2:62]
22:18 Do you not see that to God submits everyone in the heavens and everyone on earth? And the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees - and all kinds of living beings that crawl on their belly, walk on two or four feet, or fly - and many of the human beings submit to Him. But there are numerous human beings who incur retribution. Whoever disgraces himself according to God’s law, for him, there is none that can raise him to honor. God has control over all things and events and He does everything according to His laws. [‘Daabbah’ = All kinds of living beings that crawl on their belly, walk on two or four feet, or fly]

Everyone will be Judged according to what beliefs they have which they translated into actions; helping the needy, human rights, etc . Useless rituals play no part in this Judgement so are a complete waste of time. You will not be asked how many prostrations you did or whether your finger was in the right place!

Everything submits to Allah and our submission is to read, understand and do what He has stated in the Quran; what are our requirements to make a heaven on earth and get into the one in the hereafter.

Saum is a much broader concept that starvation in daylight. It is meant to be a training programme, to improve your knowledge of the Quran and we celebrate Eid after Ramadan to commemorate the revelation of the Quran in this month, not to be thankful the fasting has finished. I am still inclined to take the no eating and drinking part of this as a physical training programme though anyone who does not do this is not condemned to hellfire, as stated in the Quran, other options are available.

Some people have a nice time doing fasting though many do have a terrible experience with it, lack of sleep, zombie state, irritable, and going to bed at 4am in the morning and not rising until midday or later is not fasting but lazy and devoid of wisdom.

Glad to see that you are have at last started to think about what you should be doing.
