On this first day of fasting, I would like to wish all Muslims a Happy and fulfilling Holy month of Ramadhan. A month that teaches one to refrain from relentless consumerism, a month that helps one restrain him or herself from any excesses in our actions, our bad habits or our injurious words. A time when we seek mercy. A time when we seek forgiveness from all those we may have harmed. A time that unites families, and helps us come together in selfless deeds as we make that rewarding extra effort to remember the poor, and those living in abject squalor.
In the spirit of religious tolerance, I pray that everyone, Muslim or non-Muslim, receives countless blessings and good tidings during the next 30 Holy days, since we all share this priceless God-given life together and should therefore try our utmost to make it peaceful, prosperous and harmonious for all and with each other.
In this light, I would like to request all Muslims to not only defend, but also intensify advocacy for Human Rights and freedoms of all people starting from our homes, our work places, our communities, our countries, and wherever else individuals rights might be being abused.
Thank you & Ramadhan Kareem!
