At the Supreme Court in the Morning
As Salaamu Alaikum.
Tomorrow morning, after Fajr prayer, Insha'Allah I will line up outside of the U.S. Supreme Court.
There, I will join individuals from countries targeted by the Muslim Ban, fellow attorneys, and hundreds of protesters. Together we will stand witness as the nation's highest court is presented with arguments challenging the legality of the Trump administration's actions.
For months, we have been building up to this critical moment. Lawsuit after lawsuit, appeal after appeal, have brought us here.
As I enter the courtroom, alongside my Iranian, Libyan, Somali, Syrian, and Yemeni brothers and sisters, among others, I will know that we are in this struggle together. Today it is someone else's grandmother, husband, or child, who cannot come to the U.S. Tomorrow, it could be mine or yours.
When America is at its best, we do not discriminate against people based on their religion or ethnicity. It is critical to the soul and future of our nation that we defeat the Muslim Ban, and that we do it together.
CAIR has been fighting the Trump administration and this Ban, since the day it was announced as a campaign promise in December 2015. We have:
Engaged with the media, including MSNBC, Newsweek, Washington Post, and many more, challenging the Ban and raising up the voices of impacted community members
Filed two lawsuits and numerous amicus briefs to urge our country's courts to do the right thing
Facilitated the distribution of know your rights materials and hosted workshops to ensure impacted individuals were prepared
Passed laws protecting our community against further attacks from the Trump administration, should they come in the form of a Muslim registry
Most importantly though, we have been proud to partner with our friends at the National Immigration Law Center, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus, and MPower Change to co-create the national #NoMuslimBanEver Campaign. We are working together to win this fight.
The court will determine if the Ban stands, we will determine how strong our community emerges from this moment. While the Ban is in effect right now, we will continue to fight for its end. We will not stop, and we know that we are stronger with you.
Jazaka'Allah khair for your continued support.
