One need not believe in Bible to read and know ideas shared by Bible. It's not one Book. Bible has several authors and written or revealed at different historical periods of Hebrew people. It literally covers hundreds of years. Prophets like Ezekiel uses words like 'harlot' or prostitute to describe national entities. It does not refer to male or female person. Prophets express their anger, indignation, disappointment, and frustration when their nation acts in immoral manner. The New Testament Book REVELATION, Chapter 17 (attributed to Prophet or Apostle John) describes Queen of 'Babylon' as harlot and uses very graphic language. Still, it is a metaphor and cannot be read without careful introspection.
