LET US MAKE IT A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dear friends, Happy New Year to all! - A year of peace & blessings!

A Mufti in India has issued an edict that any Muslim wishing “Happy New Year” on 01 Jan, will be a Kafir (infidel) since that is a “Christian calendar”. Unfortunately, edicts of this kind have been surfacing with much regularity.

No wonder, there is a common misconception among ignorant Muslims. They think that the Lunar (Hijra) calendar is Islamic, whereas the Solar (Gregorian) calendar is Christian. What a joke! Aren’t the sun and the moon both created by the Almighty? Isn’t He the Creator and Sustainer of the entire Universe and of all humanity?

The Qur’an confirms that we can use the sun and the moon both for making and using our calendars and there is no such thing as a “Christian” or a “Muslim” calendar.

2:189 They ask you (O Messenger) about the phases of the Moon. Say, “They are calendars to help mankind determine certain seasons such as Hajj.” —.

6:96 He is the Cleaver of the daybreak. He has appointed the night for stillness, (rest and tranquility) and the sun and the moon to run their well-calculated courses. They become means of calculating time for you —-.

9:36 God has ordained twelve months in one year. This has been God’s Ordinance since the day He created the heavens and earth. —-.

Since the Lunar calendar has 354 days and a half, it is shorter than the Solar calendar by 10 days and a half. This lends us variety of seasons as well.

10:5 He is the One Who appointed the sun as a splendid glow, and the moon as a cool light. He appointed stages for the moon, in due measure. You make your calculations and calendars accordingly. God has created the Universe as the absolute reality and for a purpose. —-.

55:5 The sun and the moon run by a mathematical design.
