Well..........I have always wondered why the first few Caliphs started conquering vast territories when the Quran says no aggression and no compulsion in Deen?
One reply I got was that the Persian Empire was spread from Iran to Egypt and when en emissary inviting the Persian emperor to Islam was rejected and killed, Omar decided to avenge his death. The Persians were defeated and lost a huge chunk of territory to the Muslims.
All I know is that the Quran praises the Sahabas and at least the first four Caliphs were not into having luxurious palaces and a life style of opulence. They could have been fired up to spread Islam but how could they go against the Quran?
