Brother Dawood, what physical direction would they have prayed in?
If qibla is a physical direction , and their homes were each their qibla, then where did they pray towards? Did they make one wall of each of their homes the qibla, hence going against the Quran which says homes should be qibla? Did they pray towards another home, each doing it according to what they felt was right?
Please explain as I have no idea how you understand this.
Or they made their homes a qibla in order to be a place where Deen could be followed.
You quoted 2:142 which says the Jews asked why the Kaabah was the centre for the Muslims when they had Jerusalem, chosen by God for the ‘chosen people’. God is everywhere and He can chose what He wants. The following links the qibla not with a means of physical prostration towards it, but setting up an ideology, the Deen, that they will not follow so will not ‘turn to’. They rejected the Quran so they will not look for Guidance from Mecca where this is set up in a practical shape.
2.144. We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens: now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque: Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.
2.145. Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs (together), they would not follow Thy Qibla; nor art thou going to follow their Qibla; nor indeed will they follow each other's Qibla. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, Wert to follow their (vain) desires,-then wert thou Indeed (clearly) in the wrong.
It is not PHYSICAL DIRECTION but the important thing to understand and follow the BOOK:
2.174. Those who conceal Allah.s revelations in the Book, and purchase for them a miserable profit,- they swallow into themselves naught but Fire; Allah will not address them on the Day of Resurrection. Nor purify them: Grievous will be their penalty.
2.175. They are the ones who buy Error in place of Guidance and Torment in place of Forgiveness. Ah! what boldness (They show) for the Fire!
2.176. (Their doom is) because Allah sent down the Book in truth but those who seek causes of dispute in the Book are in a schism Far (from the purpose).
2.177. It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah.fearing.
Different physical Qiblas increase the risk of shirk because everyone will think they are right pointing in the direction they chose!
You wrote “This was done via Salat. Salat and Qibla are brought together, therefore Salat needs Qibla. There was no Qibla as a central symbol for them at these early times for children of Israel”
Yes, qibla is the place you turn to for getting instructions on how to follow God, what are His commands, how to put them into practice etc. Fits perfectly with homes as qiblas, whereas your “no direction” because no “centre” for the people of Moses makes no sense. I repeat, a qibla as a direction to pray in must have a direction and HOMES cannot be DIRECTIONS to pray to.
Signs or verses, Quran Arabic Corpus has this for the same word:
(9:9:2) biāyāti[with] the Verses of Allah
10:75:10) biāyātinā with Our Signs
So signs do mean verses and there are many verse, read in context that support this. Ask Dr Shabbir.
Moses the Messenger means he had messages to give:
14.4. We sent not an apostle except (to teach) in the language of his (own) people, in order to make (things) clear to them. Now Allah leaves straying those whom He pleases and guides whom He pleases: and He is Exalted in power, full of Wisdom.
14.5. We sent Moses with Our signs (and the command). "Bring out thy people from the depths of darkness into light, and teach them to remember the Days of Allah." Verily in this there are Signs for such as are firmly patient and constant,- grateful and appreciative.
14’6. Remember! Moses said to his people: "Call to mind the favour of Allah to you when He delivered you from the people of Pharaoh: they set you hard tasks and punishments, slaughtered your sons, and let your women-folk live: therein was a tremendous trial from your Lord."
The NINE Signs of Moses:
6:150 Say, “Come, bring forward your witnesses who can bear witness that God forbade all this. And if they bear witness falsely, do not bear witness with them. You shall not follow the opinions of those who deny Our revelations, nor of those who do not believe in the life to come, and consider others equal with their Lord.
[Nine Commandments … Graven images of the Bible not mentioned]
6:151 Say, "Come, let me convey to you what your Lord has enjoined upon you as a sacred duty:
i. Associate none with Him.
ii. Honor your parents, treat them kindly and fulfill their needs.
iii. Neither kill your children for fear of poverty nor deprive them of proper training and education. We provide for you and for them. (The Divine System will take care of your needs and their needs.)
iv. Do not come near immodesty or indecent deeds, whether openly or secretly.
v. Do not slay a life - life that God has made sacred - except in the course of justice. All this He has commanded you so that you may use your intelligence and reflect on it with wisdom.” [17:31]
6:152 God commands you further:
vi. Do not approach the wealth of the orphan except to improve it until they come of age with full maturity of body and mind.
vii. vii. Give full weight and full measure in all your dealings. Uphold justice in all aspects of your life. Our commands are meant to widen your human potential. We do not assign any ‘self’ responsibility beyond its means.
viii. And when you voice an opinion, be just, even if it is against a relative.
ix. Fulfill your Covenant with God, the unwavering allegiance to the Divine System. This He commands for you to bear in mind. [1:4-5, 9:111]
6:153 And surely, this is My straight way that leads straight unto Me. Follow it, then, and follow not other ways that divert you from the Divine way. These are the Divine commandments ordained for you, so that you may live upright.
6:154 LIKEWISE, We had given Moses the scripture complete for him who would do good to others. We gave him the scripture in detail as guidance and a mercy that they might believe in the meeting of their Lord (and in that all actions are duly recompensed.)
Nine Messages that were given to ALL MESSENGERS to bring their people out of darkness, verified from the Quran, not the Bible and hee stick was not a sign.
27:12 "Present the truth from your heart, it will shine unblemished. Take the Nine (of My) Messages to Pharaoh and his people, for they are a people drifting away from the right path.” [28:32. Nine, and not Ten Commandments. 2:83, 17:101, 34:13]
