Yes, in Traditional Islamic sources, they readily admit there were 2 salat daily initially, with a possible night vigil. Same can be found in popular Sunni Ibn Kathir tafsir.

The traditions claim that after the alleged isra & miraj (night journey and ascension) it became 5, based on their wildly extrapolated interpretation of 17:1.

Quran proposes a minimum of twice daily salat (Quran reading session) for the mumineen.
