Assalamu Alaikum Brothers, Sisters and Respected Elders,

We have undertaken a first of its kind field level, ‘Family Health Survey’ in the old city area of Hyderabad. The primary intention of the door to door survey, wherein 5000 and more households are being covered, is to understand the health and other socio economic parameters of the minority Muslim population in the old city & other minority clusters of Hyderabad.

In the preliminary data that was obtained through the survey - Minority population of Old city areas particularly the Urban slums, are living with a double edge sword i.e. both disease and debts, both these parameters are tightly interwoven and are having a huge negative impact on other socio economic aspects of life like education, employment, women empowerment & well being of families.

Apart from basic bonafide data, we are seeking details from indivuals households - on the incidence of disease in each household, whether treatment is being seeked in private health care or free public health services, reasons for not opting for public health services, debts on account of treatment in private health care sector, monthly expenses on medical treatment and the net impact of disease and debts on the well being of the family, mainly how employment, education and marriage of women are being impacted.

We do hope that these findings that will be reported later this month will help you make informed choices about donating your Zakath, Fitra and Sadaqa this Ramzan to help the destitute in our society – Till then we seek your guidance and feedback to make our work more meaningful and effective for the economically weaker sections of our society.

Jazakallahu Khairan
