Our lives and our objectives

I feel that we live our lives to the best of our abilities. Our selfish interests are always there, but we can achieve so many positive things by incorporating the will and desires and wishes of those around us.The past is not another country. It is always there and is something we always hang on to. The future, as an illusion, always makes us think. When thinking is involved, our experiences matter. That is where the past comes in. WE always do things that have already been done. We think that we are doing them for the first time. The jungle of life will always be there, but the telescope of our consciousness will guide us. I read about so many things about history and try to prioritize the present for the future I am not sure about. As a Muslim I believe that if I live my life according to the permanent values, not relative, enunciated in the Quran; the results will be positive and encouraging.Success depends upon many things and is again a relative term. This is where man's existence as separate from other creations come s into play.We cannot get rid of the past.History seems to culminate in what we experience in our times. If there had been no slaves in the Greek and Roman civilizations, the idea of getting rid of the institution would never have occurred .Ideas generated in the past lead to the purification of conduct in the present. Our modern day systems ignore and even reject emotions and yet we cannot get rid of them. We are usually selective in this respect. That is where the problem lies with most of the Muslims. We tend to be emotional when it comes to Islam as a religion (not a way of life) today.
We have to energize from within to realize the intrinsic value of the social system we live in.
Discussions are important as they keep the problems up front. Repetition and routine is the God of our social system and does lead to a stagnation of intelligence. It is imperative that we should not give too much stress on the past , but it cannot be totally ignored. With every passing day new demands are being created and new ideas for the future coming up.
As civilized beings we should aim at the training of wild emotions and affirm civilized rational criticism of the prevailing religious practice and inculcate the spirit of tolerance on all fronts.
