MLK Day Events
March with CAIR & Islamic Relief
Join CAIR SF Bay Area and Islamic Relief USA Bay Area in a day of service for MLK Day on Monday, January 16th.
WHAT: We will be joining the MLK Day Parade and Resource Fair. Please join our organizations as we march together to commemorate this day marching for equality, social justice and humanity.
WHERE: South Bay residents can meet us at the Caltrain station in San Jose at 9:30am or meet us at the San Francisco CalTrain Station to walk in the march. Admission to CalTrain is free for MLK Day, but registration is necessary to reveive this free ticket.
The march begins at 11:00am. The 1.5 mile journey crosses the Lefty O'Doul Bridge and stops at Willie Mays Plaza at AT&T Park to commemorate the crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, a symbol of violence and victory in the civil rights movement. Please plan to arrive early.
After the parade, at the Yerba Buena Gardens, look out for the Islamic Relief USA and CAIR SFBA booth.
Catholic & Muslim Community Event
On Monday, January 16, in honor of Martin Luther King Day, leaders from local mosques including the Muslim Community Association, SABA Islamic Center, South Bay Islamic Association, and West Valley Muslim Association will welcome the Diocese of San Jose's Bishop Patrick J. McGrath and members of local Catholic congregations for an event to express mutual understanding and support between the community.
The afternoon program will include comments from the Bishop and several other leaders and a shared meal among attendees.
WHAT: A gathering of prayer and mutual dialogue. This event will mark the first of many events expressing mutual understanding, support and friendship between Muslims and Catholics.
WHERE: SABA Islamic Center, 4415 Fortran Ct., San Jose
WHEN: Monday, January 16, 12:00pm-3:00pm
Know Your Rights
There will be marches and protests happening across the Bay Area on Inauguration Day and over the coming weekend. While we encourage American Muslims to attend these events, and be part of efforts to ensure a strong message is sent to D.C., we understand that there are a number of civil rights concerns on people's minds.
