Dr Shabbir, I find your view very convincing. I also find strong support in your position by others who take a Quran-view too. In the following articles, it seems brother Joseph also takes your position with respect to 5:1. i.e 5:1 sets the limits and then its in those livestocks that an exception is to be understood.
Does the Quran allow the eating of lions, dogs, cats, rat, etc?
Also with re: catch of the sea being permissible, again I find support in the general food article
Please copy paste link if it does not work.
All respect to scholars such as Jawaid, but i find Dr. Shabbir's and br. Joseph's position more convincing. The Qur'an I feel does define limits.
Just my two pennies.
