6:145 Say, "I do not find in the revelation given to me, any food that is prohibited for one who wishes to eat, except: Carrion (dead meat), or running blood, or the flesh of swine – for it is a barrier to moral development. Or, anything (not just meat) that, in defiance to commands, has been dedicated to other than God.” If one is forced by dire need without being deliberate and without transgressing, your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.
There is also a good answer from Shahalam,TX, need I say more? Of course I will!!! LOL
There is no confusion on my part, just my understanding of the Quran which at the moment says I have no right to declare any animal haram just because it is unpalatable to me.
Tayyab = Decent = Aesthetically sound = Neat and clean.
This is personal choice. Are chickens that eat earth worms clean? Just the thought of worms puts me off my spaghetti! Where do we draw the line? Maybe thinking about the following; there are rats grown in captivity that are free from disease and so are ‘clean’. If we are talking about rats found in the sewers then they are disease ridden and not fit for human consumption. The same for every other animal that are not declared haram in the Quran.
I will not post the hadith list of halal and haram animals again as this causes confusion but they are manmade lists with no Quranic authority; a case of taking our ancestors as lords over us and blindly following them.
