Dear Mr Bilal

Salat is a system that needs to be established of which a component is ritual prayer. The term salat has been emphasized in strong terms repeatedly in the Qur'an. It merits careful study because of it's importance.

Most of us offer prayers by following tradition. Hence, where the Qur'an means ritual prayer and mentions call to prayer, ablution, timings, prostation, bowing, shortening, etc. and we find confirmation in our traditional way, we all then, do follow the traditional way hoping that none of it goes against the Qur'an.

It has been emphasized in strong terms repeatedly in the Qur'an.

As I said before, we all are following traditions/sunnah practices handed down to us from our ancestors and if they don't clash with the Qur'an, then no harm in following them.

I am told that if we go by Hadith Books then all of them combined do not come up with a uniform way of ritual prayer.
