Uncle, Assalaamualaikum,

The statement is accurate. A friend of ours from London (Maqbool Farhat Sahib) obtained the original source (the Urdu version of it, anyway). To cut a long story short, the interview was given at Osmania University's Student Union in approx. August 1941. The statement was given to a student who would have jotted it in English. It was supposedly reported in the English-language press at the time, though we have never found it. (It was published by the Orient Press news agency, which no longer exists, and so the English original is lost ... as far as we know. Otherwise I would have quoted it in SJ2). A few months later, it was reproduced in full (but in Urdu) in Roznama Inqalaab, in the 8 Jan. 1942 issue (though it was erroneously dated Feb. 1942 inside the magazine!). Mr Farhat searched hard for it in the journal's archives and he deserves full credit for finding it. The Quaid also makes a very interesting statement about Turkey in this interview.

I'll send you the Urdu article for your records.

Best, Saleena
