We demanded Pakistan,

We got Pakistan,

We are having Pakistan for over half a century.

And today we are asking why we demanded Pakistan.

Probably we need no special intellect to answer this question?

The simple statement is that Muslim demanded a separate home land,

comprising areas of Muslim majority to enable them to practise the tenets of Islam. You may be a Fundamentalist, Traditionalist or a Modernist, the

approach could be different but the object is the same.

The idea was to introduce a system based on the tenets of Islam. Constitution of Pakistan provided workable mechanism to bring about unified system of Islam but the honourable Theologians subverted this scheme by getting the following amendment introduced in the Constitution of Pakistan,

227. Provisions relating to the Holy Quran and Sunnah.-(1) All existing laws shall be brought in conformity with the Injunctions of Islam as laid down in the Holy Quran and Sunnah, in this Part referred to as the Injunctions of Islam, and no law shall be enacted which is repugnant to such injunctions.

1[Explanation.-In the application of this clause to the personal law of any Muslim sect, the expression "Quran and Sunnah" shall mean the Quran and Sunnah as interpreted by that sect.]
(2) Effect shall be given to the provisions of clause (1) only in the manner provided in this Part.
(3) Nothing in this Part shall affect the personal laws of non-Muslim citizens or their status as citizens

This amendment gave birth to sectarianism as personal laws were now under the purview of Sectarian Heads who would never come close to each other. This exactly is the point on which Pundit Nehru won sympathies of Muslim Ulemas by promising them the right to interpret Personal Laws. Theologians should be damn happy because they prefer secular system of Government in which personal affairs are handled by Ulemas and Public affairs are left to a political unit. You can see this on sighting of Eid Moon when Mufti Nunib ur Rehman shall be the supreme authority.

This is the story of Pakistan and root cause of the menace of Sectarianism.

May Allah save Pakistan.
