NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday quoted lines of famous poet Muhammad Iqbal to retiring members of the Rajya Sabha.
"I have seen many fine members in this august house, I join others to wish them well," Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
"Yunan-o-Misr-o-Roma sab mit gaye jahan se ab tak magar hai baki naam-o-nishan hamara, kuchh baat hai ke hasti mit'ti nahin hamari sadiyon raha hai dushman daur-e-zaman hamara (Greek, Egyptians and Romans have all vanished, but we are still here. There must be something special that we still exist despite the whole world against us)," he said.
The house bid farewell to 58 Rajya Sabha members from 15 states.
The prime minister also expressed hope that many of the members would be re-elected.
"I join in conveying warmest regards and best wishes... hope many of them will return," he said.
