Previous posts of mine on this forum have mentioned that Yaum e Deen of the Quran is the day that the Way of Allah [Al-Deen] will be put into practice on this earth for living human beings. I have also mentioned that the day of judgEment [sorry Dr Saab, nothing wrong with your eyesight!] can also be explained as that time period in human affairs when matters will be judged according to the Quran. You do not need to put a ? after “That there are consequences to actions and no one can escape them in this world”, it is quite correct that all actions produce a future result, good or bad, that we have to live with. “Meeting with their Lord” of 6:154 is not describing a physical encounter with Allah [I know you know this, I am just stating the obvious] but that time when justice and equality will reign supreme; again on earth.
There is no mention of a soul/I/Ego etc in the Pentateuch either.
So let me throw a cat amongst the pigeons and play devil’s advocate:
For 14.7 billion years I did not exist and I cared nothing for this non-existence, so why should I be bothered whether I exist after death? I should make this life as harmonious for myself, my family and just as importantly, for the rest of my brothers and sisters in humanity. Thinking of the future in this way is as beneficial as thinking we will get a reward in heaven, or eternal punishment from a “Merciful” Allah. Should we interpret the verses of the Quran in this sense, rather than the life after death one we are told to believe?
Life after death- the physical transformation of individuals and societies who correct their mistakes and put into practice a just social and economic system.
3:49 And He will be a Messenger to the Children of Israel. He will say to them, “I come to you with Revelation from your Lord. If you follow me, I will raise you from dust to the heights of glory by the Command of God (7:176). The blind among you will begin to see the Truth. Those of you who are spotted with sin, I will heal them, and I shall grant real life to those who are just dragging on without purpose; all by God’s Leave, according to His Laws. I am here to establish justice and equity. I shall see to it how much you hoard in your houses and how much you spend on the community. My teachings are sufficient signs for you to believe.”
Jannah- the future blissful existence created as a result of doing the above which is hidden from our view at present but manifests itself when enough people have adopted this.
3:133 Move forward eagerly to the tranquil security that comes from your Lord, and to the Paradise that transcends spatial boundaries, encompassing the heavens and the earth. It has already been prepared for those who live upright. [Paradise is not confined to the heavens. Like Hell, it begins right here in this world]
Jahannum- living in a world that produces no positive results.
4:140 He has already revealed unto you in the Book that, when you hear the revelations of God rejected and ridiculed, sit not with them unless they engage in some other conversation (4:63, 6:68). Otherwise you shall bear similar guilt as they bear. God will gather hypocrites and rejecters together, all of them, into Hell.
Hell-fire- Fire destroys all that is created which means your incorrect hard work is reduced to nothing.
2:175 It is they who take error in exchange for Guidance, and torment in exchange for the protection of forgiveness. How steadfast are they in their pursuit of the Fire!
