Justice Khairi retired a long time ago. Presently he presides the meetings of Hamdard Shura every month in Karachi. I have the honour of being a member of this august body. At the meeting of the Shura a fortnight ago I asked him about the role of the Shariat Court in relation to the issue of presidential immunity and about the long pending case of Rajm. He pointed out that the Shariat Bench has limited jurisdiction and intervenes only when asked by the federal government.
The issue of wine being Haram or not has not been resolved and the matter is held in abeyance like so many other important issues.
