Dear brother Ijlal,

I acknowledge your posts for thoughtfulness and quality. You will get even better with experience.

Can we be indecent? Yes! Should we? No!

However, Brother, a Muslim must not fall for "political correctness". The truth must be spoken when necessary but always in a decent manner.

2:42 Do not confound the truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you are well aware of it. [2:159, 3:71]

Do not be arrogant with people, and do not walk haughtily on earth. [31:18]

Walk humbly and lower your voice in humility. [31:19]

Pride of knowledge is the height of arrogance since above every man of knowledge there is one who knows more. [12:76]

Do not shout. Speak politely keeping your voice low. [31/19]

Do not be a bragging boaster. [31/18]

Sublimate your anger into creative energy. [3:134]

Do not ridicule others, nor defame them. [49:11]

Do not insult each other by offensive nicknames. [49:11]

Avoid suspicion and guesswork. [49:11]

Respond to harsh words and actions with kindness. [13:23]

A brilliant brother, Irfan, has emailed this to me about Dr. Naik: Memorizing the Qur'an or memorizing other religions' verses and being able to quote them left and right does not mean that the person has a good or even the correct knowledge of Islam. In fact, memorizing proves NOTHING. This does not provide any evidence of a person’s ability to reason analytically. Talk to any Hafiz and you will know what I mean. Zakir Naik is a prime example of this fact. He reads and memorizes and takes a lot of pride on being given clapping and standing ovation when he quotes several verses of other religions and the Qur’an in ONE breath. What is this? It’s what they call “mob psychology” that has NOTHING to do with the truth, nor does it constitute a good debating manner. In the West, such a person who thrives on being able to squirt verses left and right without a solid point being made will be rejected outright.
