Azizam Jawaid Saheb,

One can but enjoy and learn from your thoughts.

Shabbir has no problems understanding Angels including Gabriel, Mikaail and Israafil. As you know, Allah in His infinite compassion, does not require us to know the exact nature of angels. For me, they are MUDABBIRAAT-E-AMRA = Executors of Divine commands in Nature. And they have been assigned diverse functions.

Angels prostrating before Adam mentioned at many places in the Qur'an clearly depicts them as laws of Nature having been made subservient to mankind. As we learn more through science, we discover more of these laws and use them.

Thunder is an angel - 13:13 And the thunder and the (other) angels strive to glorify Him by carrying out their duties in awe of Him. And He is the One Whose physical laws let loose the thunderbolt to strike the earth. And yet they stubbornly argue about God (and fall for superstitions), though He is Awesome in Power!

Our emotional strength is and has angels. 3:123 God had granted you help and the victory at Badr, although you were utterly disadvantaged (few and ill-equipped 8:9). Therefore, guard yourselves according to God’s laws so that your efforts bring results, such that you have cause to be grateful in word and action.

3:124 Remember when you said to the believers, “Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should help you with three thousand angels, sent down to your hearts?”
[Fearlessness, determination, inner calm, and courage are the angels God sends down upon those who strive in His cause. 8:9-12, 41:30. Taking such verses literally, leads us to wrongly conclude the utter feebleness of 'angels' - the Battle of Badr was fought between 313 Muslims and about 1,000 opponents]

3:125 If you take a firm stand and be on guard, and the enemy launches on you a sudden attack, your Lord will aid you with five thousand angels, specialized.
[Musawwimeen = Clearly marked = Those given a clear assignment = Branded horses = Destined to succeed = Special forces = Specialized. Once again, the term refers to invincible determination]
3:126 God made this but an allegory to give you glad tiding, and to comfort your hearts, since there is no victory contrary to the laws of God, the Almighty, the Wise.

Bukhari utters mutters that the exalted Prophet saw Gabriel. He was filling the horizons from East to West and he had 600 wings! Good for Bukhari; doesn't his stupidity make our job easier?

The Qur'an repeatedly tells us that we humans cannot see the angels. So, sufficient is for me to get a glimpse of their assigned tasks.

Gravity, winds, hurricanes, thunder, electricity, magnetism, atomic energy, earthquakes and even our convictions, determination, steadfastness, courage, upthrust in rivers and oceans, specific gravity or relative density in action, change of seasons, water changing to steam or snow, radium of Curie - all are or point to angels.

Gabriel stands as the powers of spreading knowledge. Mikaail = Laws of arranging provision. Israafil = Laws of decline and death.

A lifelong student
