Dear brother Shabbir, thank you for giving me such an honour which I don't think I deserve.
I cannot say anything about what was written in the name of history, when it was written and by whom. Nor do I think we can decide what Quran says about anything keeping history in mind as this way we will be making Quran dependent on the history which in my humble opinion is same as using ahadith. But this is my way of understanding and I cannot force anyone to think like that.
About marriages, I wrote earlier too. I cannot find anything that even let a clean fresh mind think multiple marriages are even an option.
I wrote about verse 24:32 which comes in Surah An Noor. I still can't find any place where we can say Prophet SW or ANY Prophet for that matter had more than one wife at a time.
This whole arrangement is only for the ease of man and not the mankind!
We talk about wars and natural disasters and how they change the balance of the population.
Lets leave war aside for now. In any kind of natural catastrophe, who suffer the most?
It's women, elderly and children! Take earthquake, floods, hurricanes... As its' women who are physically weaker and supposed to be inside their homes not fit enough to survive. What happened in Kashmir.
You being a doctor know it well, natures way of balancing.
Now in case of war, true more men die for the time, but where does it leave women to live for long. More women and children die after war than men due to lack of medical care and attention.
You may know that in remote areas of Pakistan alone where there are no medical facilities available 25% of women used to die during their very FIRST pregnancy till 2008!!
These are true statistics, available anywhere to confirm. I was looking at this TV ad in which the government was showing off about having managed to reduce the number to 23%, due to the measures they had taken in that year.
This is natures way of balancing, which is shown in the form of population statistics of the world. Which clearly confirm that there are still more males than women!
But still I would like to go only by Quran and say It says only singles should marry. There is no other way or explaination or excuse for the verse 24:32.
Finally, I would never want anyone to be banned from the form, but request all to come with clean hearts and minds leaving their egos aside when trying to understand this Holy message.
