Asalaamu 'alaykum brothers and sisters,
It is nice to see a forum that promotes true Islam and respect for women. I've been muslim for 7 years, alhamdulillah, and I was immediately indoctrinated into the misogynistic culture I see in so many masajid and on-line forums. It was intensely confusing to an American who was raised Christian. But I always knew in my heart that I was not this evil dirty woman just following behind the "perfect" male sex so I can be put in my place. I am not condemning the male sex in any way, so please don't be offended, it was just the way I was made to feel. I always questioned why would a woman not be able to pray or even touch the Qur'an during her monthly? Why would Allah take that from a woman? the answer is Allah DOES NOT take that from us. So, I thank the forum for supporting the sisters because we see so little of it in the masajid.
Thank you also for supporting people, not just people of a certain background. I've seen racism in the masjid and it horrifies me and I think "where in the Qur'an does it allow you to look down on someone?" and it angers me so much that I have not gone back in so long. I've noticed among American sisters, which I call the "Arab wives club" because they all act like they get bonus hasanat for marrying an Arab brother and if you are married to a black African brother(like myself and my best friend) then they let you know and actually support the racism that their husbands have. But they will quickly jump down my throat for my dog. I have nothing against any of my Arab brothers so please don't think that, I am AGAINST racism and ethnicism and any kind of bigotry. I love Islam because it teaches that there is no one better than another just by race or class or ethnic group.
I hope I haven't offended anyone that is definitely not my intention, it is just me having a late night "mind dump" out of just pure sadness because of what I see in the community too much. Oh and if I did offend anyone that please let me blame that on "temporary loss of sanity" due to the 103 degree fever I am having now. :) :) :)
Ma'a salaama,
Sr.Mehgan
