Azizam Doctor Saheb,
I agree with you completely. In my humble opinion, the only benefit of "Qur'an Khwani Mahafil" can be social. Family, friends and neighbors get together to share the grief.
It is nice that the Qur'an is opened for change but, unfortunately, it is recited without thinking. As you know, thirty separate 'Ajza' (siparas, paaras or parts) are distributed among the attendees and recited by the gathering in top gear without understanding, followed by the feast.
Some people call it a fashion show for women :-)
The following is what I have written for the new edition of
ISLAM: THE TRUE HISTORY AND FALSE BELIEFS.
Proxy Hajj, Prayers, Saum & Namaaz:
Deeds are non-transferable. Praying for the dead or doing Hajj for someone else are entirely non-Qur’anic (53:38-39).
Same is the case of “Qur’an Khwani Mehfils” which are held to pray for the departed soul.
Some people even do fasting on other’s behalf.
I have seen people “offering” Namaaz for a deceased relative who never “namaazed” or missed a few years of “namaazing” for any reason. They use calculators to determine the exact number of missed “Namaazes”! These non-Qur’anic practices are peddled through fabricated Ahadith by our Mullahs.
53:38 No laden one shall bear the load of another.
53:39 Every human being shall be responsible for, and compensated for, his own labor.
This lifelong student will welcome any thought that agrees with the Qur'an.
