Khalila (?) Dr Saab,
You have been the cause of a brief moment of marital disharmony. Let me explain. I was Googling the meaning of azizam when my wife asked what I was doing. When I told her, she said I should be ashamed that I do not know my Fathers language; twenty years of marriage and I did not even care to communicate to my wife in her language either! I lowered my head in shame but as you know, I can come up with an answer to get out of any slippery situation; I said that humanity speaks in their Mothers tongue, so am innocent of all charges.
My Father said ‘when in Rome, speak as the Romans do’ so he made me speak only English. I have missed out on the beauty of Urdu literature, and the irony is that when my Father wrote his poetry books I could not appreciate them! I leave it to great minds to learn other tongues, and I content myself to be a ‘jack of many trades, but master on none’.
