Hooris (Hur-In)

Hooris are the wide eyed damsels that “Muslim” men (there are no equivalent delights for women, Hooras?) have waiting for them in heaven to satisfy their every physical desire. I believe seventy two are awaiting those who enter heaven and suicide bombers are promised these beauties but it is not why they kill themselves, of course! Women, I have been reliably told, are going to become these damsels or “good little Muslim wives” on earth who die will become the Queen of their husband’s harem in Heaven. A “scholar” on “Islam Channel”, a digital satellite channel in the UK, said that in the hereafter there will be no pride, jealously or envy in order to justify the activities of men who were once married on earth so that their wives will “understand” and feel nothing is wrong with him having his Hooris. This is applying ignorance upon ignominy, how sad we are!

Anyone who wants to find out what a Hoor is in Arabic only has to look at the lexicon definition to see that the word has no gender, no male or female connotation, but in fact means “a companion who is pleasant to look at”. True believers who follow the right guidance of Allah will have a “heavenly” existence here and in the hereafter. They will each, male and female, have companions who are patient, kind, thoughtful, pleasant to look at and true to one another. There is no mention of seventy two virginal sexual slaves for each man to fulfil his desires so again the unauthentic hadith read so fervently by our religious leaders are condemned to the fires of hell for their falsehood.
The following is a translation from Yusuf Ali where the word is used:-

Surah 52 verses 20-21 20.They will recline (with ease) on thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 21.And those who believe and whose families follow them in faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds.

According to classical Arabic usage in the time when the Quran was recited, Hur'in is made of two words Hur and In. The word 'Hur' is the plural of both Ahwar (Masculine) and Hawra (Feminine) which literally translates into persons distinguished by Hawar, signifying intense whiteness of the eyeballs and lustrous black of the pupils, hence 'the purity'. Thus, the most appropriate English rendering of the compound word Hur’in will be: "Companions pure, most beautiful of eye." It is applicable to both male and female.
A much better translation is by Dr Shabir Ahmed:-

Surah 52
20 Relaxing on couches with beautiful interior decoration. And We will match them with neat companions, most beautiful of vision.
52:21 And they who attained belief, and whose children followed them in belief, We shall unite them with their children, and We shall not let any of their deeds go waste. Yet (as a rule) each person is held as collateral against what he has earned. (The condition of every person will depend on his actions)

Who can argue that we will have compatible companions in the heavenly existence that awaits us when we establish Allah’s Quranic System on earth and in the hereafter? There is promised in the Quran pleasant companions for all of us and it is to our utmost shame that they are thought of as sixteen year old everlasting virgins. There is also no mention of them being only available to martyrs or there being seventy two. According to many scholars the hadith of seventy two is “weak”, but then why did that most diligent man Bukhari deem it strong enough to put it in his book of three thousand or so hadith when he claimed to have collected over six hundred thousand? Why did he not see it as weak that scholars of today claim it is? Why are we even bothering to spend years of study on the reliability of each chain in the transmission of knowledge from the time of the Prophet to the time of Bukhari when we have the Word of Allah to diligently study? Is Allah not enough for you?
Who enters heaven and what will be the rewards in this existence? The Quran speaks in allegories and uses language that is trying to describe the indescribable in a way we can see there is something after death, so we must understand these verses in this way and not think the heavenly life is like eating and drinking etc all day!

Surah 43
43:68 [And God will say] O My servants! No fear for you this Day nor are you to grieve.
43:69 You who believed in Our messages and surrendered to Us.
43:70 Enter the Garden, you and your spouses, rejoicing.
43:71 Therein they will be served around in trays and goblets of gold. And therein is all that a person might desire and the eyes might delight in. And you are immortal therein.
43:72 Such is the Paradise that you shall have inherited by virtue of your deeds.
43:73 Fruits of those deeds shall you have in abundance to partake thereof.
43:74 But, behold, those who stole the fruit of others' labour shall abide in the suffering of Hell.

A man will enter heaven with his wife and then he will leave her to have a Hoor, do you really think so? Is that what the Quran says? Read again and you will see that the Quran clearly tells you that those who follow falsehood are destined for hell. Creating a system that takes care of the every need of every individual is the purpose of Allah sending us Revelation, not to tie us down with endless and mindless rituals but practical solutions to humanities needs. Doing good, forbidding wrong, following the Guidance of Allah will lead to this in this world and those who do not do so end up creating the hell on earth we see now.

Surah 44
44:51 Surely, those who journeyed through life cautiously, will find themselves in a secure state. [Taqwa 2:41]
44:52 Amid gardens and water springs.
44:53 Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, facing one another.
44:54 Thus shall it be. And We shall pair them with virtuous companions of beautiful vision.
44:55 In that Paradise they shall enjoy all kinds of fruits, in blissful contentment.
44:56 True immortality! They taste not death again after the first death. Thus will He save them from getting stuck at the Insurmountable Barrier. [Jaheem 2:28, 40:11. See NOTES at the end of the book]
44:57 A Bounty from your Lord! That is the Supreme Triumph.
44:58 Certainly, (O Prophet) We have made this Qur’an easy in your tongue, in order that they might take it to their hearts.
44:59 So wait and watch. Indeed, they too have to wait.

Again, these verses are for both men and women having pure companions for themselves and not just for men. Those who give no heed to the Quran are blazing a fiery trail to hellfire and they are deluding themselves when they think their reward will be sexual delights in heaven when they cannot function without Viagra in this life!

More false translations from Yusuf Ali:-

Surah 55 verses 54-57
54. They will recline on Carpets, whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the Fruit of the Gardens will be near (and easy of reach).
55. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
56. In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-
57. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-

Dr Shabir to the rescue:-

55:56 Therein women have a modest gaze, never touched by human vices or evil prompting.
[(37:48), (38:52), (44:54), (52:20), (55:72), (56:22). For 'Jinn' = 'Jann' = Evil prompting. (55:15). 'Ins' = Human, is often incorrectly translated here into 'man'. The mistranslation then goes on to state that there are women whom no Jinn or man has ever touched. What will, then, become of the ‘poor’ wonderful wives?! And are women really 'touched' by Jinns? Women (and men) who qualify for Paradise, all their faults have been remitted and absolved, hence, untouched by vice]
55:57 Then, O Men and women! Which Authority of your Lord will you deny?

We may say that here women are only mentioned as being pure so could we not interpret Hooris as female? We should never take the Quran as being made up of individual verses having no connection others; it is a whole that should overcome the inadequacies of language by using two or more verses on the same topic, written differently, but always without contradiction if done with a clear and intelligent approach.

Surah 55 verses 74-75
74 Companions never touched by human vices or evil prompting. (55:15), (55:56).
75 Then, O Men and women! Which Authority of your Lord will you deny?

Verse 74 clearly show that both male and females untouched by vices (or past sins forgiven) are worthy of this heavenly life, so we cannot take verses 54-57 out of context and say they only apply to women.

When the Quran says believing women will enter Heaven with their husbands, what has our good friend Bukhari got to say:-

Bukhari. Volume 7, Book 62, Number 124: Narrated Usama: The Prophet said, "I stood at the gate of Paradise and saw that the majority of the people who entered it were the poor, while the wealthy were stopped at the gate (for the accounts). But the companions of the Fire were ordered to be taken to the Fire. Then I stood at the gate of the Fire and saw that the majority of those who entered it were women."

Now I understand! Most of the dwellers of hell will be women, which is why the men will be left with their damsels of pleasure! Remarkable, is it not, the picture the vast majority of so-called Muslims believe about heaven and women, obtained from the hadith, which they place equal to the Word of Allah, but we have seen that the truth of the Quran shames them to hell. Now let us continue with the teachings of Bukhari, fully demonstrating the pearls of wisdom that he ascribed to a rightly guided Messenger of Allah:-

Volume 4, Book 54, Number 476: Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "The first batch (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the full moon, and the batch next to them will be (glittering) like the most brilliant star in the sky. Their hearts will be as if the heart of a single man, for they will have neither enmity nor jealousy amongst themselves; everyone will have two wives from the houris, (who will be so beautiful, pure and transparent that) the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the bones and the flesh."

What will be seen in their legs? Are we describing pleasant companions or anorexic fashion models? Unfortunately, the utterances of a deluded Persian are used to distort the true meaning of the Quran and so we have to delve further into the Word of Allah to see what we have to believe about this and the next life.
More verses that are misconstrued or totally ignored when heaven is mentioned, Y. Ali first:-

Surah 56 verses 27-40
27. The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
28. (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns,
29. Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,-
30. In shade long-extended,
31. By water flowing constantly,
32. And fruit in abundance.
33. Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,
34. And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high.
35. We have created (their Companions) of special creation.
36. And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -
37. Beloved (by nature), equal in age,-
38. For the Companions of the Right Hand.
39. A (goodly) number from those of old,
40. And a (goodly) number from those of later times

Here we have the rightly guided people having companions that are pure. The Quran has elevated the position of women who were no more than slaves in Arabia and much of the world to satisfy the needs of men. They will be fully compliant with the teaching of the Quran and support each other for the betterment of all. The above translation has been heavily influenced by the mistreatment of women in the age of harems that were re-created from the time of ignorance before the Quran enlightened everyone (for a time at least) and Dr Shabir Ahmed has explained this in the following:-

56:35 Behold, We have given these women a new being (wholly different from the Age of Ignorance (56:37)).
56:36 And made them of unparalleled virtue.
[‘Abkara’ = of matchless virtue. 'Abkara' has always been incorrectly translated as ‘virgins’ (with the sole exception of Allama G. A. Parwez. Qamoos and Raghib among the ancient experts of the Quraish dialect give it the correct meaning rendered here, as they cite several examples from ancient Arabic poetry). Interestingly, this is very similar to the wrong translation of ‘a maiden’ to ‘a virgin’ from Greek to English relating to Mary in the Bible (see my Jesus section)

Al-Tirmidhi has the following to say and it is a matter of repeating falsehood often in order to make people believe it.
Al-Hasan Al-Basri says that an old woman came to the messenger of Allah and made a request, O’ Messenger of Allah make Dua that Allah grants me entrance into Jannah. The messenger of Allah replied, O’ Mother, an old woman cannot enter Jannah. That woman started crying and began to leave. The messenger of Allah said, Say to the woman that one will not enter in a state of old age, but Allah will make all the women of Jannah young virgins. Allah Ta’aala says, Lo! We have created them a (new) creation and made them virgins, lovers, equal in age. (Surah Waaqi’ah, 35-37).

The Quran further expands upon the relationship between men and women in the next quote which is talking about both of them having companions that are pleasing to each other:-

Surah 30
30:20 And among His signs it is that He created you out of dust. And then, behold, you became human beings ranging far and wide. [6:2, 6:99, 7:11, 15:26, 21:30, 23:12, 31:28]
30:21 And among His signs is this: He created for you mates from yourselves, so that you might find comfort in them. And He ordained between you love and kindness. In this, behold, are signs for people who think. [Azwaaj = Husband + Wife, that are mates to, and complement each other towards fulfillment of each other’s personality]

Practically the whole Quran talks to both men and women except for a few verses relevant to each sex. Again, it speaks in the most pleasant manner regarding women and there is no hint of the obscenities that prevail in the hadith and the minds of the hadith “inspired” paganised Muslims “practicing” Islam today. ‘Practice does not make perfection’1

Surah 9
9:71 And the believers, men and women, are colleagues one of another. They encourage virtue and discourage vice. Together, they help establish the Divine System, and set up the Just Economic Order of Zakaat. (This is how) they obey God and His Messenger. These are the men and women on whom God will shower His Mercy. For, God is Exalted in Power, Wise.
[The believing men and women do not deliver empty lectures. They enjoin virtue and forbid vice by personal example, knowing that the Qur’an is the Eternal Criterion of Right and Wrong. 2:185. ‘Good’ and ‘Evil’, ‘Right’ and ‘Wrong’ are not vague entities. The Qur’an clearly defines them. 2:177 and many other verses. In short, good is all that helps people and evil is all that hurts them]
9:72 God promises to the believers, both men and women, Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will live forever, and magnificent dwellings in the Gardens of Eden. And God’s Approval is the greatest of all Blessings. That is the Supreme Triumph.
9:73 [Establishment of the Divine System will build a Paradise on earth. But you will meet staunch opposition] O Prophet! Strive hard against the rejecters of the Truth and the hypocrites! And be tough with them without the least inclination towards compromise in matters of Ideology. Their ultimate abode is Hell, a miserable destination indeed.
9:74 (The hypocrites) swear by God that they have said nothing wrong. Yet they most certainly have uttered a word of disbelief (9:61-62). And they have denied the Truth after professing their surrender to God. They were aiming at something beyond their reach (attaining inner peace without sincerity to the Divine Guidance). And they could find no fault in the Divine System except that God has enriched them and caused His Messenger to enrich them out of His Bounty. Hence, it will be good for them if they repent and correct themselves. But if they still turn away, God will cause them to suffer grievous retribution in this world and in the life to come. And they will have no protector or helper on earth.

We have to strive hard today against the kafir West and more so against the kafir scholars who are blinded by their indoctrinated upbringing and cannot see or hear the truth of the Quran. They recite some verses of the Quran and elucidate its meaning but they quote hadith that contradict the Word of Allah without blinking an eye! Men and women are promised heavenly rewards and it is only sexual gratification that our Mullahs are telling us men will get.

Surah 16
16:97 Whoever, whether male or female, does works that help others and is a believer, We shall certainly cause them to live a good life, and We shall grant them the rewards considering the best of their actions.
16:98 When you read the Qur’an, seek refuge in God against Satan, the rejected one. [One’s own straying thoughts may divert the attention]
16:99 He (Satan) has no power over those who truly believe and put their trust in their Lord.
16:100 His power is over those only who befriend him, and who assign ‘partners’ to God.
16:101 When We replace one Revelation with by another; and God knows best what He reveals; they say, “You are but a forger.” But most of them do not know [that human civilization has evolved sufficiently to be given the perfected Final Message superseding previous Scriptures, and that the Qur’an will remain a watcher over them. 5:48]

We must read the Quran with purity of thought, with proper intellect, undistorted by upbringing or we will be cursed by conflict and division; much like today’s “Ummah”. Trust in Allah, read, understand and implement the Quran in your life and then propagate this to those who are crying out for a better way of living but are looking at the paganised Muslims and rejecting them. They see Islam followed by people that are backward, with medieval beliefs like beard growing, Hijab wearing and the “ritualised” slaughter of animals. The people are not undertaking the Deen of Allah but the religion of their ancestors and they have the audacity to call themselves with Muslim (read Arabised) names and think they have a first class ticket to heaven. They are riding a time bomb into hell and do not realise it.

Surah 40
40:5 Before their times, the people of Noah and generations after them too banded together in denying the Message. And every nation endeavoured to seize its Messenger, and disputed with him with falsehood in order to refute the Truth. But it was I Who seized them, and, behold, how awesome was My grasping!
40:6 Thus was fulfilled the Word of your Lord concerning the rejecters, and so they are companions of the Fire.
40:7 Those who serve the Throne by striving to fulfil the Divine Plan, and all others who are assigned the mission, strive to manifest the limitless Glory of their Lord. They have full conviction in Him and they support the believers against the detrimental effects of their faults. They say, “Our Lord! You embrace all things in Your Grace and Knowledge. Absolve then, the imperfections of those who turn to You and follow Your Path, and guard them against the suffering of Hellfire.”
[This verse is mostly allegorical. 7:54, 27:8. ‘Arsh = Throne = God’s Throne of Almightiness = Some idea of His Glory = Supreme control. Yahmiloon-al-‘Arsh = They manifest God’s Glory = Keep absolute harmony in the Universe = Show that God is Praiseworthy = Have conviction that the Divinely Prescribed System of Life is a blessing for humanity = Show that the system of life on earth can be run as smoothly as the rest of the Universe = Carry out his Commands = Strive to establish Kingdom of God on earth. Hawlahu = Around it = Being mindful of God’s Will. Ghafarah = Protection = Helmet and armor = Forgiveness = Preservation = Absolving imperfections = Protection against the detriment of faults. Jaheem = Insurmountable Barrier to development = Fire of regret = Blazing Fire]
40:8 “O Our Lord! Admit them into the Gardens of Eden that you have promised to them, and to the righteous among their ancestors, and their descendants. Surely, You, only You, are the Almighty, the Wise.”
40:9 “And preserve them against their faults, for, anyone whom You preserve from their faults on that Day, on them You have bestowed Mercy. And that, that is the Supreme Triumph.” [Sayyeh = Disrupting others’ lives = Causing imbalance in the society = Faults = Transgressions]
40:10 But, behold, as for those who adamantly deny the Truth, they will be so addressed, "Indeed, greater than your disapproval of yourselves this Day was God’s disapproval when you were invited to the Faith but you went on denying and screened yourselves off from the Light.” [Kufr = Denying the Truth = Concealing the Truth = Ingratitude for Guidance = Choosing to live in darkness]
40:11 They will say, "Our Lord, twice You have made us die, just as twice You have made us live. But now we confess that we did trail behind in making progress. Is there any way out of this (second death)?”
[First death: In the worldly life. Second death: Lack of further progress in the Hereafter, which is mere survival in Hell. Most commentators lean toward ascribing the first death to the non-existence of human beings before being born into this world. But it is difficult to conceive of death before a person was even born. 2:28, 14:17, 20:74, 35:36, 44:56, 87:12-13. The Qur’an vividly portrays life as a journey with the propensity of further evolution and progress even in the Hereafter]
40:12 It will be said to them, "This is your plight because when God alone was invoked you denied the Message, but when others (such as your ‘holy’ men) were included besides Him, you believed. But the Command belongs only to God, the Sublime, the Majestic.” [39:45]
40:13 He it is Who shows you His signs in the Universe and sends down sustenance for you from the sky. Yet none learns a lesson except those who turn to seek the Truth.

Heaven is promised to those who stay true to the Guidance of Allah. Men and women of old and today will enter if they follow the Guidance but most make partners with Him and call it “Sahih”!

Let us look at some other characters that have illuminated our way of life:

"A houri is a most beautiful young woman with a transparent body. The marrow of her bones is visible like the interior lines of pearls and rubies. She looks like red wine in a white glass. She is of white colour, and free from the routine physical disabilities of an ordinary woman such as menstruation, menopause, urinal and offal discharge, child bearing and the related pollution. A houri is a girl of tender age, having large breasts which are round (pointed), and not inclined to dangle. Houris dwell in palaces of splendid surroundings."
Sunan Ibn Maja.

"Houris do not want wives to annoy their husbands, since the houris will also be the wives of the husbands in the afterlife. "Mu’adh bin Jobal (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘A woman does not annoy her husband but his spouse from amongst the maidens with wide eyes intensely white and deeply black will say: Do not annoy him, may Allah ruin you.” He is with you as a passing guest. Very soon, he will part with you and come to us."

Some anti Islamic websites and authors have mentioned that the Quran talks about women with round or swollen breasts. Read the above and you can see why. These obscenities are included in translations of the Quran that are based on hadith and not understanding Arabic correctly. No, this is not an apologetic (someone who tries to cover up a problem by way of excuses) approach but an intellectual one. The mentioning of virgins from the word Houris used in the Quran, in the translation by Muhsin (authored in Saudi Arabia) reads:-

78.33. And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age;

Hilali-Khan, Arberry, Palmer, Rodwell and Sale from their Quran translations of Surah 78 verse 33 also refer to "swelling breasts”. In addition, Ibn Kathir, in his tafsir, writes that verse Quran 78:33 in the Quran describes the physical attributes of the women. He says the following about the verse: "This means round breasts. They meant by this that the breasts of these girls will be fully rounded and not sagging, because they will be virgins, equal in age.'"

The original wording in Arabic is: WakawaAAiba atraban and Mohammad Asad has said the following about the above verse:
“As regards my rendering of kawa’ib as "splendid companions", it is to be remembered that the term ka'b -from which the participle ka’ib is derived - has many meanings, and that one of these meanings is "prominence", "eminence" or "glory" (Lisan al-Arab); thus, the verb ka'ba, when applied to a person, signifies "he made [another person] prominent", "glorious" or "splendid" (ibid.) Based on this tropical meaning of both the verb ka'ba and the noun ka'b, the participle ka'ib has often been used, in popular parlance, to denote "a girl whose breasts are becoming prominent" or "are budding" hence, many commentators see in it an allusion to some sort of youthful "female companions' who would entertain the (presumably male) inmates of paradise. This interpretation of kawa’ib overlooks the purely derivative origin of the above popular usage - which is based on the tropical connotation of "prominence" inherent in the noun ka'b - and substitutes for this obvious tropism the literal meaning of something that is physically prominent: and this, in my opinion, is utterly unjustified. If we bear in mind that the Quranic descriptions of the blessings of paradise are always allegorical, we realize that in the above context the term kawa’ib can have no other meaning than "glorious [or "splendid"] beings". (The Message of the Quran).

Not “satisfied” with Houris our “noble and righteous” ancestors have even more to say about heavenly delights:-

Ibn Kathir mentions Muhammad saying that men in heaven would have sex with one hundred virgins in one day. In another version of the hadith, Muhammad is reported to have said "In Paradise, the believer will be given such and such strength for women." Anas said, "I asked, `O Allah's Messenger! Will one be able to do that' He said, "He will be given the strength of a hundred (men)". Some companions of Muhammad are reported to have said that men in heaven will be "busy in deflowering virgins". Ibn Kathir says that the houris “are delightful virgins of comparable age who never had sexual intercourse with anyone, whether from mankind or Jinns, before their husbands." Commenting,” in the other life, after they became old in this life, they were brought back while virgin, youthful, being delightfully passionate with their husbands, beautiful, kind and cheerful."

Want more? My apologies to those who may be offended but now you know what the men are listening to in the mosques when they leave you at home. When they come back aroused, you know why! Jumma Khutba or playboy mansion?

Imam Suyuti is reported to have said, "each time we sleep with a houri we find her virgin. Besides, the penis of the Elected never softens. The erection is eternal; the sensation that you feel each time you make love is utterly delicious and out of this world and were you to experience it in this world you would faint. Each chosen one [i.e. Muslim] will marry seventy [sic] Houris, besides the women he married on earth, and all will have appetising vaginas."

In another place, Ibn Kathir emphasizes the literal nature of sexual intercourse in Paradise by another Hadith:

"The Prophet was asked: 'Do we have sex in Paradise?' He answered: 'Yes, by him who holds my soul in his hand and it will be done dahman, dahman (that is intercourse done with such shove and disturbance). And when it is finished she will return pure and virgin again.'"

Ibn Kathir relates the “understanding” of the following verses of the Quran:

Surah 36 verses 55-57
Verily, the dwellers of the Paradise, that Day, will be busy with joyful things. They and their wives will be in pleasant shade, reclining on thrones. They will have therein fruits and all that they ask for.

Ibn Kathir relates the opinion of some companions of Muhammad being reported to have said concerning "will be busy with joyful things" that means in heaven people will be "busy in deflowering virgins", but he continues to relate other alternate meanings as well, just to clear up any misconceptions! Another companion, Ibn Abass has said that it refers "listening to stringed instruments". Others such as Al-Hasan Al-Basri and Ismail bin Abi Khalid have said, "they will be too busy to think about the torment which the people of Hell are suffering." Qatadah implied "with the delights which they are enjoying." Ibn Abass said, "this means that they will be rejoicing.” While Mujahid said, "Their spouses, (will be in pleasant shade) means, in the shade of trees. "Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, `Ikrimah, Muhammad bin Ka’b, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, As-Suddi and Khusayf said, "beds beneath canopies."

The concept of 72 virgins in Islam refers to an aspect of paradise which we have seen is nowhere in the Quran and has been misunderstood from an obscene translation of its verses. In a collection by Imam at-Tirmidhi in his "Sunan" (Volume IV, Chapters on "The Features of Heaven as described by the Messenger of Allah", chapter 21: "About the Smallest Reward for the People of Heaven", hadith 2687) and also quoted by Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir (Quranic Commentary) of Surah Quran 55:72, it is stated that:

"It was mentioned by Daraj Ibn Abi Hatim, that Abu al-Haytham 'Abdullah Ibn Wahb narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudhri, who heard the Prophet Muhammad saying, 'The smallest reward for the people of Heaven is an abode where there are eighty thousand servants and seventy-two houri, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine and ruby, as wide as the distance from al-Jabiyyah to San’a.

I know I have and will blame the Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians for subverting Islam but when you read about the beautiful, buxom maidens in the Hindu heaven you can only wonder if this did not influence the sex-mad Mullahs long ago when they recorded their hadith and historical traditions. I am talking about the Apsaras who are beautiful nymphs in the court of Indra in his heavenly kingdom. If you want a mental image of these Apsaras then look up any Hindu inspired art from Indian history and they are there, naked females luring the men with their narrow waists and buxom “charms”. They also appear in Buddhist art. Apsaras had great sexual freedom and they were also called Sumad-Atmajas or daughters of joy and also have an association with temple prostitutes, similar to those depicted in the Bible, for example Judah went to visit a temple prostitute and had sex with his daughter in law who then became mother to twins and this led to the term Judaism (descendents of an incestuous relationship of Judah!). No wonder we Muslims have rampant sexual desires when we are influenced by the following “inspired” behaviour:-

Bible, Genesis Chapter 38
13 When Tamar was told, "Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep," 14 she took off her widow's clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife.
15 When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. 16 Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, "Come now, let me sleep with you." "And what will you give me to sleep with you?" she asked.
17 "I'll send you a young goat from my flock," he said. "Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?" she asked.
18 He said, "What pledge should I give you?" "Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand," she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.
19 After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow's clothes again.

In Zoroastrianism, where belief in the Day of Judgment is central, it is the ruvan (soul) that is held accountable for a person's actions during life and that suffers reward or punishment in the life to come. At the time of judgment the ruvan encounters the dainā, which is an embodiment of the sum of its deeds during life, manifested as either a beautiful maiden or an ugly hag. Depending on how these deeds are weighed, the soul either crosses safely the Chinvat Bridge to the other world or falls into the abyss. (Iranian religion." Encyclopædia Britannica. Encyclopaedia Britannica 2008 Ultimate Reference Suite. Chicago: Encyclopædia Britannica, 2008.)

Put “the Prophet said” before any narration and the respect for the man outweighs basic common sense; Muslims cannot deny the hadith because they are told they are his words and to deny them is to deny Allah and His Messenger, so off with your head, you apostate! Read the following ‘strong’ hadith but put Apsara instead of Houri and you can see who the real author is, certainly not the Prophet.

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 53: Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The Prophet said, "Nobody who dies and finds good from Allah (in the Hereafter) would wish to come back to this world even if he were given the whole world and whatever is in it, except the martyr who, on seeing the superiority of martyrdom, would like to come back to the world and get killed again (in Allah's Cause)."
Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "A single endeavour (of fighting) in Allah's Cause in the afternoon or in the forenoon is better than all the world and whatever is in it. A place in Paradise as small as the bow or lash of one of you is better than all the world and whatever is in it. And if a houri from Paradise appeared to the people of the earth, she would fill the space between Heaven and the Earth with light and pleasant scent and her head cover is better than the world and whatever is in it."

What went wrong? Why do we not listen to the call of Allah when he says we must:-

Surah 24
24:30 Tell the believing men to lower their gaze, and guard their modesty. This helps them grow in character. Surely, God is Aware of what they do.
24:31 And tell the believing women to lower their gaze, and to be mindful of their modesty. They should not let their charms be apparent beyond what may be decently and spontaneously apparent. Hence, let them cover their chests with a light covering.

Guarding your modesty is about acting in a decent manner, not just covering oneself with clothes; this is not just meant for watching women you meet but also filthy pictures and dirty writings. Bukhari entices you with “tales from the Persian Nights” and our classical historical writers add to this with sordid details fit for the gutter”.

Finally, have you heard the joke running around the orientalists, the Islam bashers? An interpretation of the relevant passages of the Quran is The Syro-Aramaic Reading of the Quran written by Christophe Luxemburg who argues that the relevant passage actually translates to a portrayal of paradise as a lush garden with pooling water and trees with rare fruit, including white raisins (considered to be delicacies at the time that the Qur'an was written), not virgin maidens. Yes, our martyrs will get raisins for rewards!
I will say no more!
