Halal Food

Surah 7 verses 30-33
7:30 But there will be two parties among people. Some of them will live upright according to the Divine Laws of Guidance while others will ally with Satans as their friends. They take their religious leadership as their masters instead of God, and think that they are rightly guided. [7:3, 22:13]
7:31 O Children of Adam! Subservience and obedience to the Divine Commands ensures for you adornment and nice things in life. So enjoy God’s Bounties, but do not commit excesses. God does not love the wasters.
7:32 Say, "Who has forbidden the beauty and nice things God has brought forth for His servants, and the pure clean things of your choice?” Say, “Such things are for those in this world who believe in the Divine Laws. And on the Day of Resurrection they will be exclusively for those who attained Conviction.” We thus explain Our Laws for those who make good use of what they learn".
7:33 Say, "My Lord forbids only: Indecent shameful deeds, open or secret,

Surah 16 verse 116
16:116 Do not keep uttering in falsehood, "This is lawful and this is unlawful”, thus inventing lies against God. Those who fabricate lies against God, fail to prosper in their ‘selves’.

The above verses of the Quran should be sufficient for those who are graced by right belief regarding what we should be doing and how to approach the subject of what is lawful and unlawful foodstuffs. Those who are disgraced by wrong belief should be mindful of these and read the following. The verses are long, but are given with full explanation so think, reflect, ponder and then decide for yourselves what being a Muslim is supposed to be about.
In the following verses the Quran gives rulings regarding what foods are forbidden and what are allowed:-

Surah 2 verse 57
2:57 And We shaded you with Our Grace and We bestowed upon you Our Bounties in abundance, saying, “Partake of the decent things We have provided you.” And they did not harm Us; but they had certainly harmed their own ‘selves’.
[Zall = Shade. Ghamam = Clouds. Being shaded with clouds in the desert is a blessing, hence my rendition as Grace. Manna-wus-Salwa = God’s sustenance that reaches all members of the community equitably. Literally, it also means delicious fruit (Manna) and fowl or quail meat (Salwa). Tayyab = Decent and clean = Of one's liking = Not forbidden in the Qur’an = Good for mind and body = Pleasant]

Surah 2 verses 168-176
2:168 (Declaring things Permissible or Forbidden is trying to ‘rival’ God.) O Mankind! Partake and enjoy the Lawful and decent things of the earth, and do not follow the footsteps of the Satan. Indeed, he is an open enemy to you.
[Satan, the rebellious desire, and satanic people lead people into transgressing. Mubeen = Open = Obvious = Known = Sure 7:22]
2:169 He teaches you to create inequities in the society, lewdness and stinginess amounting to shame, and that you should say about God what you do not know.
[Fahasha = Lewdness = Stinginess to the point of shame = Indecent acts. The satans in the society set up rules contrary to the Divine Revelation. They make their own lists of Permissible and Forbidden and teach people that accumulation of wealth is perfectly alright. Nay, spend on God’s servants all that is beyond your needs. 2:21-22, 2:219, 41:10]
2:170 When it is said unto these (satans), "Follow what God has revealed", they say, "Nay! We follow that wherein we found our ancestors.” "What! Even though their ancestors (and the ancient Imams) were lacking in understanding and were not rightly guided?”
[5:104, 10:78, 11:62, 11:87, 21:53, 34:43, 38:7, 43:23. Hudan and derivatives = Prominent = Bright = Lighted = Clearly visible = Leading = Guidance = Lighthouse = A well-lit road = A landmark of identification in the desert or sea]
2:171 The likeness of such blind followers is that (of a herd of sheep) which hear the shepherd’s call, but hear in it nothing more than a sound and a shout. Deaf, dumb, blind, for they use not their reason and, hence, fail to attain good common sense.
[This is subhuman level of existence 7:179. ‘Unq = Shepherd’s call. Shepherd here pertains to religious leaders who have learned some meaningless words or tenets, and a herd of sheep is the masses that blindly follow them. Kufr embraces blind following in addition to denying or concealing the truth. Perceptual senses alone cannot distinguish human beings from the rest of the Animal Kingdom. It is the data processing or intellectual analysis that makes them distinct]
2:172 O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Enjoy the clean, decent and aesthetically pleasing things that We have provided for all of you. And render thanks unto God if it is indeed He Whom you obey. [2:168]
2:173 He has forbidden you: dead meat (carrion), blood, swine-flesh, and anything (not just meat) that has been dedicated to other than God (be it a person, an idol or a tomb 5:3). But if one is forced by necessity, neither intending disobedience, nor exceeding, it will not be a violation that hurts his ‘self’. Indeed, God is Forgiving, Merciful.
[6:121, 6:145. Ithm = A violation that drags down the ‘self’ = An act that hurts the human ‘self’ = Anything that makes it difficult to rise up = An impediment to activity = Any action that depletes individual or communal energy. Ghafarah = Helmet and armour. Forgiveness involves protection from the detrimental effects of faults]
2:174 Surely, those who conceal the Book of God, and barter it away for a trifling gain, they eat into their bellies nothing but Fire. God will not even address them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He make their ‘selves’ grow. Theirs will be an awful suffering.
[Those who conceal the Book = The ones who start making their own lists of the Lawful and Unlawful, and thus, usurp the Divine Right of Law-making. Also note that this verse clearly mentions the ongoing growth and evolution of the ‘self’ in the Hereafter. Tazkiah from Zaku = Growth = Purity from vice = Development of the ‘self’ = Self-actualization]
2:175 It is they who take error in exchange for Guidance, and torment in exchange for the protection of forgiveness. How steadfast are they in their pursuit of the Fire!
2:176 This is so, because God has revealed the Book in absolute Truth; therein is no contradiction. Obviously, those who set their own views against the Book, split deeply into sects and fall into mutual disputes.
[4:82, 25:30. Shaqq and derivatives = To split = Fall apart = Schism = Fall into disputes = Opposition = Oppose one another = Splitting of personality = Break apart the unity = Enmity]

Surah 5 verses 1-4
5:1 O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Fulfil your pledges and obligations. Permitted for you for food are all plant-eating livestock with the exceptions named (5:3). God has ordained that all hunting is prohibited during Hajj. Surely, God ordains as He deems fit. [Baheema-tul-An’aam = The herbivorous cattle = Plant-eating quadrupeds = Livestock]
5:2 O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Do not violate the symbols set up by God, nor the Sacred Months (2:194), neither the gifts nor the camels for use as transport or sacrifice, nor the garlands marking them, nor the people who proceed to the Sacred Sanctuary, Kaabah, seeking God's Blessings and Approval. When you have completed the Hajj, you are free to hunt. Let not your hatred (or disapproval) of a people lead you to transgression, because they prevented you from going to the Sacred Masjid (48:25). Help one another in acts of collective benefit and in being mindful of God, and do not help one another in deeds that hurt humanity and in creating a wedge between people. Be mindful of God’s Laws. His Law of Requital is strong in grasping.
5:3 The following things are Forbidden to you:
Carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, anything (not just meat) that has been dedicated to any other than God (such as an idol, grave or saint), any animal that has been strangled to death, or beaten to death, or killed by fall, or gored to death, or eaten by a wild animal unless you are able to slaughter it while it is still alive, and (also Forbidden is) what is sacrificed on idolatrous altars (devotional stones or blocks in shrines considered sacred). And (you are forbidden) from dividing one another’s portions through raffling, and divining the future by such means as arrows, for these are deviations. This Day, the rejecters of the Truth have lost all hope of (making compromises with) your System of Life. But, do not fear them, but fear Me. This Day, I have perfected your Law for you, completed My favor upon you, and chosen for you Al-Islam as the System of Life. If anyone is forced by dire necessity (to consume the Forbidden), with no intention of transgression, God is indeed Forgiving, Merciful.
[Mayitah = Carrion = Dead meat = An animal that dies of itself. Azlaam = Divining arrows = The conjecture of foretelling the future = Raffle = Lottery = Dividing things or time for one another through randomly picking up slips of paper. Deen = System of Life = The Law. 2:173, 2:185, 2:219, 5:90]
5:4 They ask you (O Prophet) what foods are Permissible. Tell them all good things of life are Lawful to you. As for the hunting animals, the catch of your trained dogs and falcons, as God has taught you, is Permissible. Mention God's name thereupon. Always be mindful of God’s Laws. His Law of Requital is swift in reckoning.

Surah 16 verse 14
16:14 And He it is Who has made the sea subservient. You eat from it tender fresh meat and take from it gems which you may wear. And on that very sea you see the ships roaming through the waves so that you might seek of His Bounty and be appreciative.

Surah 20 verses 80-82
20:80 O Children of Israel! We saved you from your enemy, and then made a Covenant with you by the right-hand slope of Mount Sinai, and gave you ample provision, meats and wholesome vegetation. [2:57, right-hand slope 19:52]
20:81 Saying, “Partake and enjoy the decent provisions which We have bestowed upon you. But do not disregard equity and none shall be deprived of the natural resources. Transgress not in this respect lest My disapproval should descend on you. And those nations on whom descends My disapproval do perish indeed!”
20:82 And certainly, I am the Protecting Forgiver. There is plenty of room in My Laws to forgo wrongs of the past, so repent by coming back to the right path. Those who believe in My Laws, keep the collective good of the society in mind, and maintain that Order, will find themselves on the way to Success.

Here, the Quran gives clear instructions as to what foods we are not allowed to consume.
1. Dead meat, carrion, are animals that you find already killed by disease or other animals. These are forbidden because as soon as death occurs decomposition begins as well as the problem of harmful bacterial diseases. Animals caught by hunting dogs and birds of prey, e.g. falcons, may be eaten as long as you are able to slaughter them yourselves.
2. Blood means not drinking running blood from animals (which some tribes in Africa still do this e.g. the Massai, in Kenya) and removing as much blood from them as possible by way of cutting the jugular vein and windpipe . The spine is not cut as this leaves the nerves passing from the brain to heart intact and this keeps the heart pumping until a large part of the blood is removed from the body. The animal twitches from time to time and this is not due to pain but the muscles contracting automatically as the blood is depleted from the tissues. Blood is an ideal medium for bacteria and other diseases to grow in and this is why as much blood as possible should be removed from the animal.
3. Swine is obviously pig meat.
4. Many idol worshippers consume food after praying to false deities and these are also strictly forbidden to Muslims as well. Food dedicated to anything or anyone else (idols and saints) is not allowed to be consumed. Well intentioned food that is distributed to the poor and needy by non-Muslims who have “blessed” them should not be eaten unless there is an undeniable need to do so. This includes food prepared in Hindu and Sikh temples and freely given to anyone in need. Food aid is a different matter and does not have any restrictions imposed upon it since it is usually donated by governments and aid agencies who are not religiously motivated.

Some more verses for you to ponder over:-

Surah 5 verse 87-88
5:87 O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Do not deprive yourselves of the good things of life that God has made Lawful to you. But commit no excesses. God does not love those who exceed the limits. [Self-mortification by ascetics, monks and mystics is not the way to ‘purify’ the ‘soul’]
5:88 Thus, partake of the Lawful, good things that God grants you as sustenance. And be conscious of God, in Whom you are believers.

Surah 10 verses 57-60
10:57 O Mankind! There has now come to you Enlightenment from your Sustainer, and a healing for everything that troubles your hearts, and Guidance, and Grace to all who embrace it.
10:58 Say, “In this Bounty of God and in His Grace – in this, then, let them rejoice. It is better than all the treasures that they may amass.”
10:59 Say, “Have you considered how God sends down to you all kinds of provisions for your minds and bodies? Then you render some of them unlawful and some lawful?” Say, “Has God permitted you to do this? Or do you invent lies and attribute them to God?” [The clergy go after manmade dogmas thus tampering with the revealed Word of God and declare unlawful His Bounties of sustenance, food, clothes, ornament of life and things of aesthetic beauty such as art. 7:32. See 34:13 how a Prophet of God, Solomon decorates his kingdom with beautiful works of art]
10:60 Does it ever occur to the people who tamper with religion and invent lies concerning God, that they will have to face Him on the Resurrection Day? God is Infinitely Bountiful toward mankind, but the majority of them do not show gratitude in word and action.

Now this seems clear to me but our Muslim brothers and sisters have done what the Jews did and took our ancestors, Mullahs, Pirs, Sufi saints, Imams, etc, as lords and follow their every word, relegating the Word of Allah to a Holy Book that should be “respected” but not followed:-

Surah 9 verse 31-32
9:31 They take their rabbis, priests and monks to be their Lords* besides God. And they take as their Lord, the Messiah son of Mary. Yet they were commanded to worship but One God. There is no god but He. Praise and Glory to Him, He is far too Glorious for what they ascribe to Him.
[*Talmud shows the Jewish superstition of ascribing divinity to Ezra, rabbis, saints, doctors of law and learned men. And the doctrine of Papal infallibility, divinity of saints and praying to them are common in the Roman Catholic Church; copied by you know who]
9:32 They seek to extinguish God’s Light (the Qur’an) by their utterances. But God will not allow this to pass, for He has willed to spread His Light in all its fullness even though the rejecters may detest it.

Allah has made the good thinks lawful for us but based on the Sharia laws passed down to us by our ancestors our Ulemas have ADDED to the list, because they know more than Allah! The fact that they have added to what the All-Knowing has decreed is irrelevant to them:-

The making of carnivorous animals’ haram for us is probably based on the following verse of the Quran and definitely based on the Bible, quoted later, but because we Muslims do not read the Quran in the context of what is written we have come up with the wrong conclusions.

Surah 6 verse 146:-
“Unto those who are Jews We forbade every animal with claws…….

So we must be forbidden to eat them as well? Well let us look at the full context, sorry, it is long but it needs to be written:-

Surah 6 verses 135-150
6:135 Say, "O My people! Go on doing what you wish, and so will I. Soon, you will know to whom belongs the ultimate (success). Most certainly, the wrongdoers will never prosper." [‘Uqba = End = The final outcome = The ultimate destination = Life Hereafter. The last is probably not applicable here because of the context]
6:136 [How can they succeed when their beliefs and actions are wrong?] They set aside a portion of God's provision of crops and cattle and claim, "This is for God, and this is for our idols.” But the share of their idols never reaches God, and the share of God does reach their idols. What an unjust decision they make! [Their priesthood devours both portions of their making, and the poor remain wanting. To God reaches what you spend on the needy. 6:141]
6:137 (At the prompting of the mystics and monks, and in the name of their temples, idols, sanctuaries, and the dead "holy" men and women), the Mushrikeen (idolaters) do acts of omission and commission against their own children! They inflict great pain upon themselves and their families in the name of religion. If God had willed (they would have followed the Laws of Guidance and), they would not have done it. (Since they take this abuse as a part of their plan to salvation), leave them alone and what they fabricate.
6:138 And they say, “Such and such cattle and fruits of the field are sacred. No one will eat of them except whom we permit.” They also arbitrarily prohibit the riding of some animals. And there are cattle over which they do not pronounce the Name of God (but of someone else, to please people). Such are their fabrications in His Name. Soon He will reward them for their false imagery.
[They claim that it has been dedicated to some saint. Are not such VIP favours very much alive in the modern day Jahilyah?]
6:139 (They display their bias toward women in weird ways.) They say, “What is in the bellies of these cattle is reserved for the males among us, and forbidden to our wives.” But if it is a stillbirth, they permit their wives to share it. He, the Wise, the Knower, will repay them for their innovations.
6:140 Lost indeed are those who kill their children foolishly, and forbid what God has provided them as sustenance. And they attribute their innovations to God! Their straying is far from the way of the rightly guided.
[They deprive their children to the point of starvation and death in the name of religious service, when under the instructions of the priesthood they abandon their families]
6:141 He it is Who creates Bounties for you, such as gardens that are cultivated, greens that are wild, palm trees of various kinds, crops in diversity, olives and pomegranates, fruits that are similar and diverse. Enjoy them, but give Him His Right on the Day of the Harvest. And waste not the Bounty of God. Surely, He does not love the wasteful. [‘give Him His Right’ = Give God His Right = Render to the poor what is their Divinely ordained right. Time to reflect on Zakaat: See 2:3, 11:64, 55:10]
6:142 Among the large and small quadrupeds some are for work and transportation and others for flesh, and their skins for bedding materials. Enjoy what God has provided you. And do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Satan (your selfish desire) is your open enemy.
6:143 Take the example of eight quadrupeds: Two sheep, one male and one female, two goats, one male and one female. Say, “Is it the two males that He has forbidden, or the two females, or the calves in the wombs of the females? Tell me if you have true knowledge.
6:144 Then two camels, one male and one female, two cows, one male and one female. Say, “Is it the two males that He has forbidden, or the two females, or the calves in the wombs of the two females? Were you witnesses when God made such prohibitions? Who can be a greater transgressor than the one who invents a lie and attributes it to God? They mislead people without knowledge. God does not intervene to guide those who displace knowledge with conjecture.”
6:145 Say, "I do not find in the Revelation given to me, any food that is prohibited for one who wishes to eat except: Carrion (dead meat), or running blood, or the flesh of swine – for, certainly, it is a barrier to the moral development. Or, anything (not just meat) that has been, in defiance to Commands, has been dedicated to other than God.” If one is forced by dire need without being deliberate and without transgressing, your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.
[2:173, 5:3. Rijs = Unclean = Disapproved = Contaminated = Foul = A barrier to moral development. Science still needs to learn how pork can be a barrier to morality. Fisq = Deviation = Abomination = In defiance of Divine Commands = Disobedience of God = Drifting away from reason]
6:146 For those who are Jewish, We had prohibited some edibles, such as animals with undivided hoof, the fat of the cow and the sheep, except what is attached to their backs or their intestines, or what is mixed-up in the bone. But that was only a temporary retribution for their disobedience (4:160). We are indeed True to Our Word.
6:147 If they accuse you of falsehood (O Prophet), tell them, “Your Lord is the Lord of Infinite Mercy, but His Requital will not be averted from the guilty.”
6:148 Those who associate others with God will say, “Had God willed, we would not have practiced idolatry, nor would our ancestors, nor would we have prohibited anything.” So did their ancestors argue falsely until they tasted Our Requital. Say, “Do you have any proven knowledge that you can present (that the human being is created without free will 18:29, 76:3, 90:10)? Nay, you follow nothing but conjecture and you only run after guess-work.”
6:149 Say, "The most Powerful Reasoning, the Final Evidence belongs to God. If He willed, He could have made all of you innately guided (like other creation who spontaneously follow Divine Laws 16:49, 41:11.)”
6:150 Say, “Come, bring forward your witnesses who can bear witness that God forbade all this. And if they bear witness falsely, do not bear witness with them. You shall not follow the opinions of those who deny Our revelations, nor of those who do not believe in the life to come, and deem others equal with their Lord. [8:53]

Bring your Imams, your books of Bukhari to testify against Allah, may Allah have mercy on your souls. Our Jewish brothers and sisters of the book have kosher meat which is allowed to us but previous revelations from Allah forbade certain animals to the Jewish people as a punishment for their wickedness. This was a restriction placed upon those people at that time and when the Quran was revealed these were removed so do not apply today. A Jew will not accept this but how many times have they denied Allah and previous Prophets? How many times have we Muslims denied the Quran in favour of Imam this, or Imam that?

And Surah 3 verse 93-95
3:93 Now, all means of physical sustenance were abundantly available unto the Children of Israel, except what Israel as a community had deprived themselves (due to their transgressions) – before the Torah was revealed. Say, "Bring the Torah and study it if you are truthful.” [Hillan = Halaal = Permissible = Abundantly available. Israel = A title of Jacob = Figuratively here, the Israelites]
3:94 Then, whoever invents a lie concerning God, after this (clear evidence), it is they who will be unjust.
3:95 Say, “God has declared the Truth. Follow, then, the Creed of Abraham, the upright who shunned all falsehood. For, he was not of those who choose authorities besides God.”

The Jews also made unlawful some foods for themselves that were not forbidden by the Law of Allah, they made it up themselves and were asked to bring forth proof in order to justify their ignorance. Remind you of anyone? We have the Quran which is the final message of Allah and as such is the true guidance we should be following, hence all foods are allowed except those stated above in the Quran. The Jews have a book called the Talmud. This gives a vast amount of rulings and regulations on every aspect of Jewish life and practice including diet. This book is not the Torah of Moses but was “made up” by the priests in times gone by and was heavily influenced by pagan practices which were adopted by the Jews over their long history. Sound familiar? Our hadith books have more to do with the false practices of the Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians than to our True Criterion, The Quran. The Talmud was rejected by Samaritan Jews and they went back to the Torah which is why other Jews are against this branch of Judaism (Jesus praised the Good Samaritan, why?). Follow the good things in the hadith, but do not bring a false hadith to challenge the Quran; YOU WILL NOT WIN JANNAH WITH THIS APPROACH.
The fictional hadith attributed to our Prophet is the same as the Talmudic regulations made up by the Jews; the Quran rejects their falsehood and so we must reject the hadith that go against the Word of Allah. When the Quran corrects the Jewish mistakes then ours must equally be corrected!

Surah 6 verses 112-121
6:112 Remember, We have appointed to every Prophet enemies. The rebellious among the urban and the rural populations rose in opposition, (since the Message struck at their personal interests.) They plotted and inspired each other with fancy words. If your Lord willed, they would not do that. Disregard them and whatever they fabricate.
6:113 Those who love quick gains and neglect the long-term benefits and the Hereafter, are parties to such fabrications. Let them delight in it and let them earn from it what they may.
6:114 Say, “Shall I seek for Judge and Ruler someone other than God? He it is Who has revealed this Book, well expounded in detail for you.” Those whom We have given the Book know that this is revealed in Truth from your Lord. Be not among those who argue for the sake of argument.
6:115 Perfected is the Word of your Lord in Truth and Justice. None can change His Words and His Laws. And He is the Profound Hearer, the Knower. [6:34, 6:115, 10:64, 17:77, 18:27, 33:38, 33:62, 40:85, 48:23]
6:116 (People will confront you with what the majority is doing.) Now if you pay heed to, or get intimidated by majority of those who live on earth, they will lead you astray from God’s Way. Most of the people follow nothing but conjecture and they only live by guesswork.
6:117 Only your Lord (shows the Right Path and) knows best those who stray and those who are rightly guided.
6:118 So eat of what God has made Permissible, if you are indeed believers in His revelations. [People wonder why different things have been made Lawful or Unlawful in the Qur’an. But what the majority thinks, shall never be the criterion 3:93]
6:119 Why should you not eat of that on which God’s Name has been pronounced (i.e. it is not dedicated to other than Him)? He has explained to you in detail what is forbidden along with certain exceptions in dire need. Numerous of the clergy mislead people in this matter without knowledge, and with their personal opinions. Surely, your Lord, He is best Aware of those who transgress and go beyond limits. [5:3]
6:120 Abstain from violating the Divine Commands, whether openly or secretly. Those who drag down their ‘selves’ by such violations will be awarded what they have earned. [They will live a subhuman existence and meet a befitting consequence]
6:121 Pronounce the Name of God before eating anything (not just meat). For, not doing so will mean drifting away from Commands. Satans (the rebellious among people) inspire their companions to dispute with you. If you were to obey them, you will indeed be Pagans.
[6:145, 6:173. Using Tasreef, this verse has been translated differently, but correctly for clear understanding. Mushrikoon = Idolaters = Pagans = Those who ascribe divinity besides God = Those who prefer human ‘authorities’ or clergy over Revelation = Who ‘worship’ their own desire]

Prior to eating we must pronounce Allah’s name over all the food which includes meat, fruit and vegetables. This is a form of reminder that we are here due to Allah, He has created all things and we take the benefit from them so we must be truly thankful for the deity responsible for this.
Allah has explained what is forbidden and those who seek to add to His words are trying to mislead us without the proper knowledge; the ignorant only lead the ignorant so we must search for the truth ourselves. Surah 16 verse 116 quoted above has Allah telling us not to make up lawful and unlawful things contrary to the Word of Allah. Unfortunately our “illustrious ancestors” have come up with the list of things we are not allowed to eat which has no authority from the Quran. Nowhere in the Quran does it state that predatory creatures or certain sea foods are forbidden to us. Some people have claimed that eating lions etc would make us “wild” whereas eating sheep keeps us “passive”! Any person with a reasonable amount of intelligence will tell you that the flesh of the animal is composed of proteins etc. and does not in anyway hold onto any mental attributes which could be passed to us when we eat them! I personally do not eat lions etc but they are not forbidden to me by Allah, only those things stated in the above verses so why say so? Why deny what Allah has clearly stated?
You may say pig meat is composed of proteins so why has Allah forbidden this animal to us Muslims, Jews AND Christians (but they reject His Guidance and follow a man called Paul)? My limited study of nutrition has revealed that pork meat has the most concentrated saturated fatty acids and so is a major cause of coronary heart disease, stroke and premature death, as well as other problems. Infected pig meat due to tape worms is still a problem today even though they have vastly improved the conditions the pigs live under and these results in a number of deaths every year. Thousands of years ago this animal was forbidden to be eaten by us by Allah Who knows what is best for His creation. The Quran is clear, self explanatory and brings unity to thinking people. Making up what we should and should not do contrary to the Quran only brings disunity and has resulted in the many sects of the Muslim Ummah. Read, understand and reveal the Quran to mankind is the duty of all Muslims but unfortunately the message is hidden behind other sources and it is imperative that the very people who claim to be Muslims should go back to its teachings.
Some of our Muslim brethren will revolt at the thought of eating (even touching) pork but do not realise that looking lecherously at half naked, non-believing women, is just as repulsive to Allah. I have seen documentaries on drug dealers who deal in this illicit means thinking it is fine but when offered a ham sandwich jump back in revulsion. They have revulsion of pork inbred into them from birth but not the other haram acts that should be just as strongly avoided.
Another point I would like to make regarding the “pronouncing” of Allah’s name over what we eat.

Surah 5 verse 4
5:4 They ask you (O Prophet) what foods are Permissible. Tell them all good things of life are Lawful to you. As for the hunting animals, the catch of your trained dogs and falcons, as God has taught you, is Permissible. Mention God's name thereupon. Always be mindful of God’s Laws. His Law of Requital is swift in reckoning.

This verse has been used by some to say that as long as we pronounce the name of Allah over any food then we can eat it. They say that even if the animal has been killed by electrocution, poison, or whatever else man uses, then just saying Bismillah over it makes it Halal. I believe that even though the Quran says we are allowed to eat the food of the People of the Book it is only on the bases that it has been killed appropriately and not electrocuted etc. Most so-called Christian countries do not remove the blood so this type of food is not allowed. Jews have always removed the blood and is therefore Halal and the Bible speaks of the early followers of Jesus being incensed that some Christians were eating “unclean” food when they were forbidden to do so. Later Christians have abandoned most of what Jesus taught them and are now eating pork and not removing the blood of animals. We are not to go near such food, just like we are not to marry unchaste women from the People of the Book, a distinction is clearly made between rightly guided believing Jews and Christians and non-believers. Taking words out of the Quran without properly understanding them is a dangerous practice which will lead us to hellfire.

Surah 22 verse 36-37 22:36 And the camels! We have appointed them among the symbols (of obedience) to God; in them is much good for you. (They carry you and your loads and then help you host one another). So, mention God’s Name over them when they are drawn up in lines (for sacrifice). And after they have fallen to the ground lifeless, partake from their flesh, and feed the contented poor who do not beg as well as the poor who ask. Remember that God has subjected these animals to you so that you may be grateful.
22:37 Neither their meat nor their blood reaches God. What reaches Him is your sincere devotion. He has thus subjected them to you that you manifestly establish the Greatness of God in the land for everyone to behold (the objective of Hajj). And to see how magnificent the Guidance is that He has bestowed upon you. And (O Prophet) give glad news to all benefactors of humanity. [2:185]

We are to pronounce the name of Allah over any animal we are about to slaughter and this is only to be done when they are to be consumed. Killing animals for sport or fun is totally prohibited. The animals are to be consumed as part of our daily dietary needs and be given to the hungry and the needy and no food should be wasted. Their deaths are not a sacrifice to Allah for He is not in need of anything but it is our righteousness and good deeds that are more important. The idea that animals need to be sacrificed to a god that is happy over the spilling of their blood or smelling their burnt odour is totally rejected by the Quran (false teaching of the Bible). It is also abundantly clear that the sacrifice of the animals at the time of Hajj is only for those performing the Hajj and not the world wide Muslims. This ritualised slaughter of numerous animals leads to vast wastage and only a few poor people are fed (it is usually family members that “benefit” from the kurbani meat, not the poor who need it).
How many times does the Quran have to say something before it registers in your minds that something is wrong with what you have been told by the Mullahs to believe? Verses from the Quran makes it abundantly clear what wrongs mankind do in the name of indoctrination and false tradition and since very few read this Book using their intellects, these sacrificial sheep are misguided into hell!
I have heard some scholars say that the following verse gives authority to those who are knowledgeable, i.e. their illustrious ancestors and themselves, to forbid some foods:-

Surah 16 verses 114
16:114 So enjoy all the Lawful and decent things which God has provided for you. And be grateful for God’s Bounty, if it is Him you truly serve. [Gratitude is not mere words of thanks. It involves sharing God’s bounties with fellow humans]

If you take it at face value you can ban any food you want to by calling it indecent to eat. For instance, in Korea they eat dogs, in China snakes and rats, all of which are repugnant to people in the West but to those brought up on such animals they are delicacies. They do not suffer from any harmful effects by eating them; the animals are bred in captivity and “farmed” in the same way as sheep or cows so what is the problem? To a Hindu, the mentioning of eating a cow is as repugnant to them as pork eating is to us Muslims, so everything is subjective. Poisonous foods, e.g. some mushrooms, are to be avoided so Allah is telling us that everything He created does not benefit us and we should avoid them. Nothing else; nothing more.
“Learn wisdom” my dear brothers and sisters by following the true “hadith” of the Prophet that were Revealed to him by Allah. Do not your eyes see “say” throughout the Quran which are the Divinely ordained words he was authorised to speak to mankind and not those made up by a Persian 200 years later? That reminds me to show you the tales that Bukhari has spun for our enlightenment!

Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 67, Number 403: Narrated Ibn Abi Aufa:
We participated with the Prophet in six or seven Ghazawat, and we used to eat locusts with him.

The above says we are allowed to eat insects so why have some Mullahs made these unlawful? Sorry, they probably have contradictory hadith to say they are banned and ignore the Glorious Quran wherein there is no doubt.

Volume 7, Book 67, Number 418: Narrated Asma bint Abu Bakr:
We slaughtered a horse (by Nahr) during the lifetime of the Prophet and ate it.

Volume 7, Book 67, Number 429: Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:
On the Day of the battle of Khaibar, Allah's Apostle made donkey's meat unlawful and allowed the eating of horse flesh.

Horses are allowed and donkeys are not. What about Mules, the result of the mating of a horse and a donkey? The above is even contradicted by the following verse mentioned near to them:-

Volume 7, Book 67, Number 437: Narrated 'Amr:
I said to Jabir bin Zaid, "The people claim that Allah's Apostle forbade the eating of donkey's meat." He said, "Al-Hakam bin 'Amr Al-Ghifari used to say so when he was with us, but Ibn 'Abbas, the great religious learned man, refused to give a final verdict and recited: -- 'Say: I find not in that which has been inspired to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be carrion, blood poured forth or the flesh of swine...' (6.145)

Only follow what was inspired to the Prophet, my prayers are answered! Someone does say something Quranically acceptable in the hadith.

Volume 7, Book 67, Number 435o:Narrated Az-Zuhri:
The Prophet prohibited the eating of beasts having fangs.

Now we get to the carnivorous beasts, again no mention in the Quran of them but Az-Zuhri knows best, may Allah be pleased with Him for correcting the Hikma of Allah.

Volume 7, Book 67, Number 444: Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
The Prophet said, "I do not eat mastigure, but I do not prohibit its eating."

I have no idea what mastigure is and I do not care to find out.

Volume 7, Book 67, Number 447: Narrated Az-Zhuri:
regarding an animal, e.g., a mouse or some other animal that had fallen into solid or liquid oil or butter-fat: I had been informed that a mouse had died in butter-fat whereupon Allah's Apostle ordered that the butter-fat near it be thrown away and the rest of the butter-fat can be eaten.

The Black death, the Plague, was spread by flees living on rats and mice so we can see why some Muslim countries were devastated by this disease by following this guidance. Why bother with cleanliness of the body when you are putting infected food in your mouths.
And where did Bukhari get his ideas from? If you have never read the Bible, do not worry, a lot of the hadith are from it so you have not missed out on anything:-

Bible Leviticus Chapter 11
11:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them,
11:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.
11:3 Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is cloven-footed, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.
11:4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
11:5 And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
11:6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
11:7 And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven-footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.
11:8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.
11:9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
11:10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11:11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination.
11:12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
11:13 And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
11:14 And the vulture, and the kite after his kind;
11:15 Every raven after his kind;
11:16 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after his kind,
11:17 And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl,
11:18 And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle,
11:19 And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
11:20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.
11:21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;
11:22 Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.
11:23 But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you.
11:24 And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcass of them shall be unclean until the even.
11:25 And whosoever beareth ought of the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.
11:26 The carcasses of every beast which divideth the hoof, and is not cloven-footed, nor cheweth the cud, are unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean.
11:27 And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcass shall be unclean until the even.
11:28 And he that beareth the carcass of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you.
11:29 These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind,
11:30 And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole.
11:31 These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even.
11:32 And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be cleansed.
11:33 And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it.
11:34 Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water cometh shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean.
11:35 And every thing whereupon any part of their carcass falleth shall be unclean; whether it be oven, or ranges for pots, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean and shall be unclean unto you.
11:36 Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which toucheth their carcass shall be unclean.
11:37 And if any part of their carcass fall upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean.
11:38 But if any water be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcass fall thereon, it shall be unclean unto you.
11:39 And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that toucheth the carcass thereof shall be unclean until the even.
11:40 And he that eateth of the carcass of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcass of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even.
11:41 And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten.
11:42 Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination.
11:43 Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.
11:44 For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
11:45 For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.
11:46 This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth:
11:47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.

By the way, hares do not “chew the Cud” (11-6) so clearly the scribe who wrote this was less than knowledgeable about this creature and certainly not inspired! Again, if it is not in the Quran it was not “inspired” to the Messenger of Allah, everything else was his opinion or, more correctly, the opinion of later generations.

There are some questions that still need answering; for instance, the Quran does not use the word Zabeeha so is this the only way to slaughter or can we eat animals killed immediately in front of us by our hunting animals? I have said above that we need to do the slaughter but if the hunting animal kills the prey, does the slaughter have to take place in our hands? The Quran states we can eat these animals so where does Zabeeha come in? Any thoughts?
