Entropy is a word which was invented by the German physicist Rudolf Clausius and is a very special term in thermodynamics to allow one to measure that part of the thremal energy of a closed system that is not available for conversion into mechanical work.Different forms of energy can be convertred to mechanical forms and they comfort us in our daily life.This law of Entrpopy is now known asd the second law of thermodynamics. Mention must be made of the first law that was incorporated into the second law and is related to the conservation of energy....the principle that energy cannot be created or destroyed buit can only be changed from one form of energy into another.The second law holds that the entropy of the Universe invariably increases with every transfer of energy that takes place.There is always some amount of energythat is transformed into an unusable (Unavailable) form of energy. It is believed that at some time in the future all of the energy in the Universe will meet its inevitable entropic fate.This view considers the Universe to be a closed system that is inexorably 'running down'The third law rules out the possibility of the second law's permissibility of allowing perfectly efficient energy transfers at a temp. of absolute zero i.e. -272.15 C. Remember Einstein refused to believe that God plays dice with the Universe.
Entropy has also been a favourite of science fiction writers (H>G>Wells 'The Time Machine'. Isaac Asimov even decided to do something about this theory and turned Entropy around and started it off in the opposite direction in his story 'The Last Question'.(Check these books at Amazon)
