Salaam, and my total respect to you Dear Dr. Shabbir,
One miracle of the Qur'an is that it appeals to the mind of every human being depending upon his/her mental capacity and according to the state of human knowledge at a given time.
It is your right to translate which ever way you like, and then it is the right of people to accept or negate your translation. in my view You and your team have done an incredible amount of work in reaching what I believe is the best modern translation of the Quran, it is pleasant to read and easy to understand.
How could have the Quran been able to describe in complete scientific terms many of its revelations, like the one of the Seven layers protecting us (without them we would not be here in the present form), how can we dispute this fact? Or how it could have been described in any other ways 1400 years ago?
Just as example, many years ago an old Australian Aboriginal describe me the X-ray machine taking a photo of his chest, as this: “ I was in a big room, where a person placed a glass dome above me and then he give me a painting of the spirit inside me!”.
For me this “forum” is more valuable than going to the Mosque, I can share my though with my sisters and brothers. Just like in any family we have disagreement and pleasant times. I believe that critical respectful review could bring us closer to the Messages from Our Creator.
Brother, you can choose the hundred year old translations if you like, or raise yourself to the levels of the current knowledge of sciences.
I have read many new and old translations of the Quran, your translation of THE BOOK as far as I am concerned has no equal, and I thank Allah for having me directed to this web site.
My regards to you all
