Dr. Shabbir, SA

You ask all of us to self assess our behaviors to determine our alignment with the Qur-an. It is a worthwhile exercise, but self assessment is not the easiest thing in the world. In my experience, a Qur-an-centric person has to struggle with these three things to become confident and effective:

- Unlearn the way of thinking about Allah and the religion
- Study the Qur-an with such eagerness and urgency as if there is no tomorrow
- Begin to modify ones practices and begin to disagree with the established religious norms

Once the logic, power, and sheer clarity of the Qur-anic message has sunk in, then you endeavor to break your silence and let your point of view be known to family, friends, and strangers. Folks who are members of families and communities where the N2I traditions are entrenched have their work cut out for them, while others can make this transition without many heartaches and disappointments. I consider myself fortunate as I do not belong to a traditions steeped family, when it comes to religion, and have been able to make the transition to the Qur-an-centric thinking with ease. Having said that, I think the Qur-anic Muslims continue to struggle with:

- Being Allah-conscious all the time
- Being aware of their responsibilities to the other human beings regardless of their race, religion, language, and social status
- Being brave enough to put up an informed, non-threatening opposition to non-Qur-anic beliefs and statements
- Committing to a movement - putting money where their mouth is
- Abstaining from the Ibleesian arrogance in our daily lives

Qur-anic Muslims are on a journey that previous generations also took and changed humanity. The question is not whether we are better than the N2Is, rather are we on a path approved by Allah? If we are indeed on the right path, then our individual short comings will be short lived and we will achieve much to establish paradise on this Earth.
