Dear Jawaid Saheb,
Observations from a brilliant mind like yours must be respected.
When translating any verse, I look thoroughly at the context before and after at length, and then the content of the verse. Of course, we must not lose sight of the idiomatic use of the language and the general Message of the Quran.
Keeping all this in mind, I choose a translation that would avoid ambiguity or propensity toward dangerously incorrect meanings without the least over-stretching.
QXP 2:223 is an extraordinary example of correctly choosing "women" instead of "wives". It prevents a serious misunderstanding and makes the verse flow naturally as it should and as it does in the original text.
Keep enlightening us, may Allah bless you!
