Salaam Dr. Saheb,
I know Saim Bakar from the Islamic Dawn group on Yahoo. I mostly remember him for issuing open challenges to all and sundry to prove the Qur’anic way as the only way. I read his book “My Journey From The Christianity of Ahlul Sunnah Wal Jamaah To The Islam Of The Prophet”. I found that it was a rabble rousing rant which all too often pushed the boundaries of logic. What hurt me most was that Bakar even questioned the existence of Sahaaba Karaam like Ammi Ayesha and Hazrat Umar, referring to them, respectively, as “a character called Ayesha”, and “someone by the name of Umar”.
I also remember an email conversation you had with him many years ago wherein he had said that Makkah in the Qur’an means ‘controversy’ or ‘intrigue’, and that it’s not an actual place. I had realized then that Bakar was a man who had probably lost his marbles, and paid no further attention to his diatribes.
