Dr. Shabbir’s change of stance on “Saum” is an extremely significant turn of events. It affects our understanding of one the most important aspects of Islam.
Since most of us here have taken Dr. Shabbir as our mentor, I think the issue certainly merits an independent elaboration from him.
I read Dr. Qamar Zaman’s work, and forceful as it was, for me it overrode Dr. Shabbir’s then-understanding of Ramadan as a “training program”, and his justification of this program as one that trains us to abstain from impermissible things by making us avoid permissible things for a month.
Dr. Saheb, your opinions are critically required, and soon!
BTW, now that Dr. Shabbir has amended his approach to “Saum”, should we expect to see a revision in QXP too?
