It never ceases to amaze me how some people can take a simple concept and make it sound mystical, complex, and a thousand times more confusing than it really is. They would rather write, "Mr. Brady propelled the prolate spheroid" instead of "Tom threw the football."
Maybe they do it unintentionally - they just have poor communication skills. Or perhaps they do it on purpose so their reader remains confused and gets impressed.
