An important Quranic understanding on religions.
Date: Wednesday, 10 June 2009, 4:38 pm

This week’s issue of TIME magazine (Jun15) has an article on different religions harmony and interaction.
Title. “GOD”.
Decoding God’s changing moods.
The ancient scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam reveal a pattern—and if we read it correctly, there may be hope for reconciliation and harmony. By Robert Wright.

It’s a long article covering history, changing times and need of understanding. It also mentions that there is a contrast in Quran.
Beside this article, this contradiction is also expressed as confusion by young generations and ordinary people, who are not so well read and are 99% of the muslim population. Many young people refer these ayets as ununderstandable.

Hence it is very important that leading scholars with good understanding of Quran should address this issue thoroughly and internationally. The present day general attitudes and beliefs are very much derivative of the holy book perceptions, which may need corrections.

These references are frequently quoted by extremist Mullahs against Yahood n Nisara and vice versa by them against Quran, saying that islam is extremism.

Following are the two examples.

1. 5:51.. Oh, ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them.

2. That kill them , where ever you find them.

In contrast ,
109:6 ( Lakum deenekum wal yadeen ). Unto you your way, and unto me my Way."
There is no compulsion in deen.
It is permissible to marry with people of scriptures.
57:27. And We placed kindness and compassion in the hearts of those who followed him.( Jesus). ( Praise for Christians)

Its very important that present day scholars address these issues of confusion very clearly. I hope to get some views, as i find myself in no position to understand these two sides. Dr. S.A is kindly requested to share with.
